Boardwalk Empire: Creator Considers How to End the HBO Series

Boardwalk Empire ending soon? The end may be near for Boardwalk Empire. Series creator Terence Winter tells TheWrap that he and the writers will soon be discussing how long the HBO TV series will continue.

Winter said, “We are starting to have that conversation. Creatively I just want to have the show be as strong as possible… It’s really a question of how much story do we have left to tell… We’re going to get together at the end of December and start batting things around and based on that answer, we’ll know how much longer we’re gonna go.”

He noted that, “There’s no incentive to keep it on the air -– there’s such a different model now, it’s not like, ‘Oh, we need to hit a certain number to get syndicated’ … There’s no gun to your head to keep something on more than the natural life it should have.”

HBO has already renewed Boardwalk Empire for a fifth season which will air sometime in 2014.

What do you think? How long do you think that Boardwalk Empire should continue?

I think they should do what The Sopranos and Breaking Bad did: split the final season into 2 parts, whether that is next year or the year after, whatever

This is very surprising to me. I think they could go on and tell more of the story. My husband thinks there isn’t much more story they can tell. If this show is truly based off a series of books then of course I’d say that they need to continue. BUT if the writers, actors, and creators are getting bored or tired with it then yes, go out on top. Make sure whatever season they decide to end it is it’s best season. It’s been a great 4 seasons so far. My husband and I are HUGE fans of the show. Wonderful acting, wonderful actors, and outstanding writing.

this how is very early in the story line. if you know the history you know this. and it’s a book. and they aren’t that far into the book . so i don’t know what this guy is talking about. they could do 10 seasons if they want. all i can say is he’s tired of the show and want’s out. he made his money. this is pathetic.

They must want to go out on top, because they are nowhere near the end as far as good story possibilities. We have never missed an episode, and count down from the time the season ends to the beginning of the next season. I could see this show going at least another 2 or 3 years without issue, but can understand if the writers or actors don’t want to continue. HBO losing True Blood is going to hit hard enough, I certainly hope that they don’t decide that they should then follow up with ending Boardwalk Empire the same year. Nobody will be tuning into HBO if they do. (Well, not for about 9 months of the year. I am sure they, like in our house, will be tuning into Game of Thrones.) That would be such a hard hit against the summer viewing and then the fall. Too much too fast if you ask me.

At least a couple more seasons, the show has had it’s ups and downs, but it’s still a fine show. I guess the question of how much more story there is left to tell is valid. I got on board from get go because Martin, and I’m not much of a fan of anyone else on the show. In front or behind the camera, I’m just surprised they are already talking about it. It’s not like the show is in trouble.
