Golden Boy: Cancel or Renew for Season Two?

Golden Boy cancel or renew?CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.

The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.

Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?

Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.

Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.

But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?

BIGGEST MISTAKE IN CBS HISTORY! How could you be so
blind to know this may be one of greatest cop shows ever!!!
You shoul’ve done what you promised & aired it before Blue
Bloods!!!!! Pure Ignorance!!! Disgusted with CBS who gives NO one
a chance! …this show would’ve been on the air for years!

What a fresh new show. I love the way it starts in the future, the rewinds you to the past. You always have to pay close attention to the beginning if not then you figure out the story line… Which is always great. The cast Are perfect for each of thier rolls. Please do not cancel…

Boy get into a show and watch every week and they just cancel it, really stinks when your waiting for the What Happened.. maybe if they stop going back and forth in years, hopefully some other station will pick it up. And since cbs thought the price is right was more important than the Benghazi investigation I can erase cbs from my cable box.

Golden Boy was a great show and had so many plots to develop. It certainly trumped some of the junk they call T.V. that is on now such as reality shows etc.

Is CBS NUTS!!! This is one of the most clever, well-written and exciting shows to come along in a very long time. I DVR it so I can watch several episodes at a time. The concept is brillitant as it builds up the suspense of how he becomes the police commissioner in 7 years, the lessons learned, and now they’re going to leave us hanging? What the hell else do they have that’s’ better?! It should be promoted far more than it has, and be given at least another season for viewers who didn’t know about it to catch up. Get it together, CBS!

Are you serious??!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show…I have watched every episode since day one and I look forward to it every Tuesday, right after NCIS and NCIS/LA. The whole story with Arroyo (Kevin Alejandro) and the lady cop and his obvious disdain for every rule if it means getting ahead is amazing. Every episode has had its unique storyline, but then you are transported to 7 years in the future and are fed little tidbits about what is going to happen..please do not cancel this show!!!It really has the potentia for being a great show..maybe moving it to Friday would HELP it in the ratings….

Please DO NOT cancel Golden Boy!!! It’s the best new show and is actually character driven, unlike some of the other crime shows that are stictly procedural, aka..boring. Chi McBride’s character is wonderful and so is Theo James’. Bonnie Summerville is excellent too, as is Kevin Alejandro. There are so many inane shows on tv, please at least give us one show, besides Masterpiece Theater, that has depth, interesting dialogue and story lines.

This is so upsetting. This was an exciting show with well developed characters and fantastic actors. We know that it had a built in end date of six years after which the Golden Boy would become the commissioner. The serious would never get tired with seriously ageing characters like Law and Order SVU. Hopefully some cable station will have the sense to pick this show up.

Golden Boy is the best show on TV. The Walter Clark character is perfectly portrayed by Theo James. He is a fabulous actor! The story is intriguing and very well written. The supporting cast is spot on, and compliments all aspects. I will be so disappointed if this great show is not renewed.
