Golden Boy: Cancel or Renew for Season Two?

Golden Boy cancel or renew?CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.

The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.

Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?

Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.

Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.

But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?

This is the BEST new show to come on TV in years. I have my regulars, and now this is one of them. The acting is awesome, the future predictions in 7 years should mean this show has a lot of ground it could cover. CBS has cancelled too many great shows and more sitcoms is nauseating. There isn’t really any good ones out there except BIG BANG THEORY. Come execs, get over it and leave a good drama for us to enjoy and look forward to.

My wife and I have watched every show from the begining we love golden boy. It would be stupid to cancel a very very good show just based on ratings. Perhaps we the viewers should rate channels that we want off the air for incompentant superiors for passing judgement for rarings. This show is the best new story you have ever had in a while so please give it more seasons.

I look forward to the show each week. I have been telling people about it. It’s GREAT!

Please, please, renew. I would rather see that show than the 30-minute sit-coms scheduled for fall and winter. I won’t watch them.

Golden Boy is one of the few shows I really look forward to watching each week. Please don’t cancel it. All the characters are appealing and interesting. And I love Michael Madsen and he just popped up.

Golden Boy is the best new crime drama in a long time. It has an intriguing premise, interesting characters, and a sustainable storyline. Would really like to see CBS revisit their decision to cancel it or some other network pick it up.

I didn’t watch Golden boy at first but when I did, I was hooked. I loved the interaction between Chi McBrides character and Walter Clark. I was looking forward to the 2nd season. Unfortunately, CBS seems to want the “comedy” programs that appeal to under age 25- that most older viewers have no desire to watch.

My husband and I hate it that Golden Boy has been cancelled. That was one of our very favorite shows with a great cast of actors. What a shame. We don’t think they gave it a chance for people to find it. Some of the stuff they left on is junk with a capital J.

Golden Boy is a winner. Great cast. CBS needs to keep this show in their lineup. Please reconsider. If Golden Boy does get dropped, I hope another network grabs it.

Please Renew the show! Best show on TV in years! Last episode was great too. I’d love to see how he makes it to a commissioner. Sad to hear of cancellation. Great show given up on too early. ;(

Unbelievable, one of the first shows in a while with an interesting story line. It was the only Tv watching I did on Tuesday since I don’t care for NCIS and NCIS LA. I guess it’s back to cable channels on Tuesday night.
