Merlin: Cancelled by NBC but Season Two is Still Coming to US

MerlinThe BBC series didn’t exactly bring “magical” ratings to NBC during its short run last summer but Merlin’s second season will still be seen here in the states.

Merlin follows the life of the legendary wizard in early adulthood, living in the court of King Uther, Arthur’s father. The series stars Colin Morgan as Merlin, Bradley James as Prince Arthur, Anthony Head as King Uther, Katie McGrath as Morgana, Angel Coulby as Gwen, Richard Wilson as Gaius, and John Hurt as the voice of the Great Dragon.

A production of BBC One, Merlin has been a big enough success in the UK to be renewed for seasons two and three. NBC picked up the supernatural show and decided to run the first season during the summer of 2009. The ratings weren’t very good and the network has been mum on any plans to bring it back.

Does it matter to you that Merlin's on SyFy and not NBC?

Now, there’s word that Merlin is indeed coming back to the US — but not on NBC. Word is that Syfy (also owned by NBC Universal) will begin airing season two of Merlin on Friday, April 2nd; paired with the returning Stargate Universe.

If you need a refresher on season one, Syfy will be airing the episodes during an all-day marathon on March 28th. You can also purchase the official DVD release but that won’t hit stores until April 20th. It’s a five-disc set and will contain all 13 episodes as well as two hours of extras that will include video diaries and a featurette.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear Merlin is returning to the US? Does it matter to you that it’s on Syfy and not NBC?

I’m glad it is coming to Syfy and was not cancelled. They are cancelling too many good shows lately. Nothing is on, but ridiculous, tasteless, reality shows. Why I don’t know.

I LOVE “Merlin” – just started watching it a couple of days ago. I can’t wait to see the new season!

I can’t believe NBC is making the same mistake with “Merlin” that it did with “Friday Night Lights”. I hate NBC and the way everytime they have a show that draws me to their station, they go and sell it off or cancell. I rarely watch their programing because it’s mostly garbage except for The Biggest Loser, Days of Our Lives and the two shows I previously mention. Thank you for listening

I watched Merlin last year during the summer and was looking forward to seeing it this year on a regular network. I’m surprised that it isn’t on NBC this year. I think they missed a good show because of past ratings and think they will realize this later.

I Love the Merlin Series, it is too bad that NBC is so short sited and did not keep it on a prime time channel. Who ever is running NBC needs to lose their job. They cancel every show that is good.

I really like Merlin on SYFY because I get to see the current episode twice in the same night and again during the week. I can’t wait for the 1st Season DVD release and I will get all the Merlin books. Just hope they keep it on, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why the BBC did not run it on their station. Or maybe they did and I missed it, but don’t see how since I am always watching Dr. Who and Torchwood (there’s another good show they cancelled).

I am glad that Merlin is airing in the US, however, I am sad that it is not airing on NBC because I do not get SYFY channel. But faithful Youtube didn’t let me down, I have now viewed both season 1 and 2 on Youtube and can’t wait for season 3 to be aired in the UK so that I may watch it on Youtube

I am very glad Sci-Fi picked up Merlin, Doing so keeps me on this channel longer enjoying great shows with real content. NBC is a lost station and greedy for Money not customer satisfaction. Glad to avoid and turn to Sci-Fi (SyFy)

I am pleased that Merlin is still airing. I only just found it a week or so ago. I love it, and so do my kids. I love how clean it is, and exciting at the same time! I will keep watching for it on hulu since I do not have a television.

My husband and I really enjoyed the Merlin Series. It is too bad that NBC doesn’t have the foresight to continue a good series. I do not want to watch it on syfy.

It would be great if another station would pick it up!!
