Secret Diary of a Call Girl: Renewed for Fourth and Final Season; Possible Movie?

Secret Diary of a Call GirlIt’s official. Secret Diary of a Call Girl will return for a fourth season on Showtime. That will be the end of the TV show but the story could continue in another form.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl follows Hannah Baxter (Billie Piper), an independent and witty London graduate who secretly works as a high-class escort. Using the name of “Belle,” she’s always loved the single life, claiming she doesn’t need relationships because she gets what she needs from her work. Other actors in the series include Iddo Goldberg, Joanna Bobin, Cherie Lunghi, Callum Blue, James D’Arcy, Ashley Madekwe, Nadia Cameron-Blakey, Ace Bhatti, Toyah Willcox, and Stuart Organ.

The series is produced in the UK and debuted there on ITV2 back in 2007. Showtime considered producing an American version of the series but ultimately decided to purchase and air the UK series instead. The third season finished airing in the US in March of this year.

There was some question about whether the series would continue for a fourth season. A couple months ago, Madekwe said, “We haven’t really spoken about a fourth season yet. I think the producers all really love it and it’s like their baby. They definitely believe in it and the cast enjoy doing it so if it worked out we’d probably all be there.”

Piper, who is also an executive producer on the show, recently said that they were already in the midst of filming the show’s fourth season but that would be the last. According to the Daily Star, she’ll receive £2 million for her work. Showtime has now officially renewed the series so viewers on both sides of the pond will get to see it. They’ve also confirmed that season four will be the end.

Piper hasn’t said what the fourth season will hold but Madekwe shared that she thinks plots will “veer even further away from the client and prostitute relationship.”

She said, “There’s only so many times we can watch Billie have weird sex with weird men! In order for the show to continue to be interesting and fresh it would have to delve deeper into her life and away from the business. I think that’s where the real Belle de Jour went eventually.”

As with the previous three, Call Girl’s fourth season will be comprised of just eight episodes. They’ll start airing on ITV2 in January and will likely air on Showtime around the same time.

Though the TV show will be over, Piper said that producers are looking to develop a movie based on the series. The Sex and the City movies have apparently served as an inspiration for the team.

What do you think? Are you sad that the TV show will be ending next year? Would you like to see a big screen version of Secret Diary of a Call Girl?

I would’ve liked to see everything the same, except Stephanie stays in jail a bit longer. Just a 1 year sentence to give one more season to explore Belle as a madam.

I too loved the show very much I watched all 4 seasons in a month and the ended was so horrible. What I really don’t understand is its a show why did feminist hate it so much … It’s made up.

I watched this show and have to say its one of the worst written programs out there. Its not remotely believable that an escort would let her life get this out of control. Its as if some immature high school boy wrote it, with every silly cliché he could come up with. 1. She’s with one client, but leaves the door unlocked? So of course her boyfriend, who doesn’t know she’s an escort, walks in. 2. Her best friend is booked by a guy who turns out to be her next boyfriend, and all of this is revealed at, of course, the best friend’s wedding. 3. Hannah runs into a client and his wife at an everyday restaurant. 4. She buys a house and before she’s even moved in, she takes in her boss’s/madam’s kid, who of course shortly finds out that not only Hannah, but her mother, are both escorts. These are supposed to be funny calamities, but they don’t ring at all true and smack of poor writing. I really like Billie Piper, but this series is just too implausible and comes off neither comedic nor entertaining. Good riddance.

It’s not poorly written and neither is it supposed to be realistic it’s meant to be entertaining not some Real House Wifes creap. Honestly nothing on TV is true to itself point of it all is to enjoy it and if you don’t like it there are so many other things to watch.

This response is not at all accurate. The writer must not have actually watched in detail. 1. She went to lock the door but opted to leave it unlocked because the client was disabled and escorted by his father, who was his caretaker, in case he needed to return. 2. Her relationship with her best friend is explained in the beginning; they previously were lovers who broke up realizing they worked better as friends, which is a very realistic scenario. Later they realized they knew so much about one another and the romance was reignited after many failed relationships, again very realistic scenario. 3. As a former high end escort, it’s not often, but also not rare, to be in a situation where you cross paths with a client. Most clients are locals who work high end jobs and fancy high end restaurants. A high end escort averages $3000 AMD in on days work, therefor will often fancy high end restaurants as well. The Secret Diary of a Call Girl is extremely accurate with the way the escort business runs and the type of situations that a worker offer endures. Again, she is a high end escort which is not you everyday common street walking prostitute. The type of clients, requests, hotels, relationships and just ever day living were portrayed more accurate in this series than I have witnessed in any other show or movie that is based on this line of work. I have never researched where the idea for this shoe originated, but I can pretty much guarantee it is probably based on a real life memoir or written by a former call girl.

I absolutely loved the show. I hoped they would not cancel, but what difference will it make if we protest. Will they change their mind? I don’t think so? BUT I HOPE THEY DO!
