This evening, ABC aired the season finale of The River. What’s next? Will the TV show return for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
For those who aren’t familiar with the ABC series, The River follows the search for beloved TV host and explorer (Bruce Greenwood) some six months after he and his team went missing down the Amazon. His wife, son, their crew and a documentary team go after them on what turns out to be a dangerous rescue mission. The cast includes Joe Anderson, Leslie Hope, Eloise Mumford, Paul Blackthorne, Thomas Kretschmann, Daniel Zacapa, Shaun Parkes, and Paulina Gaitan.
Sadly, it’s almost certain that The River will be cancelled. The thriller series debuted back in the February with a pair of episodes. The first hour attracted a 2.6 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 8.35 million total viewers. By the second hour, 12% of the audience had bailed and the numbers dropped to a 2.3 rating with 6.83 million.
The ratings have been dropping ever since. Last week’s episode drew just a 1.3 rating in the demo with 4.09 million total viewers. Averaging a 1.67 demo and 4.82 million, The River is the lowest-rated drama on the network and has fallen even lower than sure-to-be-cancelled Pan Am. On our network report card, which compares ABC TV show demo ratings, The River gets a “D.”
With ratings like these, there’s just no chance that the alphabet network will order any more installments.

FUCK YOU ABC. get your head out of your asses, you people are not good at attracting a bigger audience if you are gonna cancel a show like “The River” , you guys should be ashamed, ashamed because you have upset sooooooooo many people and i can personally tell you myself that “I will never watch ABC again until they put The River back on”. ABC you should be ASHAMED!!!!!!!!
Just so ABC knows i will not ever watch another program that they have on thier station until they at least bring the river to a close. I cannot belive that they left everyone hanging on this show. This was a great show and they need to at least bring it to an end with a season 2. ABC has disapointed alot Alot of people who did enjoy watching this show. STRAIGHTIN UP ABC!!!!!!

I’m so disappointed I loved the river yet I was prepared for it being the last episode, but it just leaves you with a feeling of injustice watching the end of episode 8

Ratings had dipped because here in the UK we sky + ( Record) all episodes to watch on a weekend. Please petition for season 2 cos I want more and need to know what happens next!!!!

Please bring back the river another season and see how many more will be watching I had a lot of family and friend’s that hadn’t seen it advertised but loved those kind of series and missed most of the begging and was trying too catch up on HULU; But I waited for season 2 and was very upset that it had been canceled please bring back 1 more season to bring it to a close.

Please please do another series it is one of the best programmes I have ever watched. It wasn’t very well advertised and no-one I knew, knew it was on. Once I told them loads of people watch it now it is brilliant something different well done please do another epic series.
I would like the River to return… The last episode left you hanging…if your going to cancel the show at least run it to an end and don’t leave the rest of us hanging.
