After NBC’s worst season, it’s no surprise that the peacock network is shaking up their 2007-08 schedule. There’s also little surprise about which shows didn’t survive. Here’s what won’t be returning next season:
Andy Barker, P.I. – The Andy Richter comedy series ran for six episodes to poor ratings. NBC put the last two on Saturday night and it seemed like the sitcom was doomed before it began.
The Black Donnellys – The Paul Haggis series was pulled after six episodes and the remaining episodes have been made available on NBC’s site and iTunes.
Crossing Jordan – After six seasons on the air, Jordan has solved her last case. The series finale airs on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Grease: You’re The One That I Want – The ratings were a disappointment and seriously, how could they do another season anyway — fire the first years’ winners to make room for the second’s?
Identity – The Penn Jillette-hosted game show about contestants identifying strangers’ hobbies or occupations is finished after 12 episodes.
Kidnapped – NBC’s big serial drama under-performed network expectations and was cancelled after three episodes and pulled from the schedule after five. Luckily for viewers, NBC released the remaining seven episodes online and the series has been released on DVD.
Raines – The quirky Jeff Goldblum detective show ran all seven episodes to poor ratings. It won’t be back.
The Real Wedding Crashers – The reality series that replaced Donnellys was pulled from the schedule after three episodes. NBC may air the remaining episodes during the summer.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – The much-hyped Aaron Sorkin series didn’t live up to expectations. It will return on May 24th and hopefully NBC will air all six of the remaining episodes. A DVD release is likely.
Thank God You’re Here – The improv sketch show’s ratings were nothing to smile about so it’s been cancelled after seven episodes.
Twenty Good Years – This sitcom starred series veterans John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor, was pulled from the network schedule after just four episodes. It’s doubtful that the remaining episodes will air.
Returning in the fall are: 30 Rock, The Biggest Loser, Dateline, Deal or No Deal, ER, Friday Night Lights (moved to Fridays at 10pm), Heroes, Las Vegas, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: SVU, My Name is Earl, The Office, and Scrubs. Law & Order and Medium (moved to Sunday nights) will return mid-season (January 2008) or earlier.
The Apprentice was left off the Fall schedule but NBC and creator Mark Burnett are still in talks of bringing back the series in some form. Mark Burnett previously pledged to find another home for the reality show if NBC drops it.
The Friday night 8pm timeslot has been designated as “game night” and will consist of rotating reality or games shows. The Bob Saget-hosted series 1 vs. 100 will air for eight weeks initially.
Wow several of my shows are being canceled!
Including: Crossing Jordan (one of my very fav shows), Studio 60, and Raines. I didnt catch all of Raines episodes but the ones I saw I thought were interesting and then boom it was gone.
wth NBC? Yall suck. Dont let Medium go, even though yall keep moving it!
Medium and Heroes are the only tv-dramas I watch on NBC now. The only other shows I watch are Dateline (rarely) and Jay Leno (sometimes), even then I usually go back to Dave and Craig on CBS.
NBC has proven once again that the execs have no idea what the public wants. They have always been this way. I blame them for why Saturday Night Live sucks because whenever we get someone good, they end up firing them (i.e. Norm Macdonald). They have abused the show Scrubs by constantly changing and postponing and the ratings have dropped because of it. Shows like Raines and ESPECIALLY Studio 60 have been very well written shows. The problem is scheduling, most people were not home to watch any of these shows (which explains the high dvr ratings it received), which… Read more »
Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Cancelling Crossing Jordan and Raines, BIG MISTAKE!! NBC should get rid of those retarded reality and game shows and focus on well written entertainment, that’s what TV was made for. Too bad!! Switching to CBS for good now!! At least they have all the CSI’a and they are here to STAY!!!
No wonder NBC is failing so badly in the ratings, they take away a plate of Sirloin and replace it with a plate of Dog Food. Someone should fire their Program Director.
NBC is off my viewing schedule for the rest of the year (at least).
Raines was stupid glad to see it go, Medium should have been canceled. Sorry to see Jericho go. Rosie is home laughing about the Apprentice
Old Christine should go, the Black Donnelys was a waste.
I enjoyed Raines and Crossing Jordan. Loved the new medical examiner … really feisty. Oh well, I’ve never accused network executives of having intelligence. When all you care about are demographics and bucks, why should a show’s content count? Surely that explains the “reality” shows. Anytime I hear arguments for “FREE” TV I start squirming. What rot. Nothing is free.
Why cancel a show like Raines. I don’t think you give these shows a chance. 7 episodes is not enough. It takes that long to find and follow them around. You cancel Raines and keep reality shows. If I want to watch reality I’ll just look around at my own life. Bring Raines back and give him a chance.
Crossing Jordan gets 7 years and Raines gets 7 weeks? I don’t think nbc is in touch with it’s audience.
What is wrong with these networks, especially NBC! They seem to be their own worst enemy, killing their own young! NBC used to be my favorite network with such excellence like “West Wing” during the Aaron Sorkin years. Now they’re doing to “Medium” what they did this last year, making it a midseason replacement and now moving it to Sundays. CBS seems to be going the way of NBC, cancelling shows like “Jericho” to replace them with garbage reality shows. And they wonder why more of us are migrating to watch original programming on cable channels!
Studio 60 was an interesting and well done show. I am disappointed to have it cancelled.
Can’t believe you are canceling Raines. Raines was an interesting show – it made you want to watch it to see what would happen. Jeff Goldblum was excellent.
Thank god you’re here is thank god it’s gone. What a stupid show. But I am so upset that Raines is gone. That was such a good show. So different. I love Jeff anyway. You guys keep making bad decisions. Where are you getting the ratings from? Maybe you should broaden the ratings pool. The reality shows suck but you just keep creating more of them. I don’t watch NBC much anyway. Raines was the only show worth tuning in. So I guess I can delete it off the remote menu.
Syndicated programs on USA beat NBC most nights. Is it any wonder why?
The Black Donnellys & Raines were the only reasons to even watch NBC – they are making some very bad decisions here
Oh no! I just found out about Raines!!! I can’t believe it’s canceled already! He reminded me of House… sorta. Why didn’t they pick a better time slot anyway?
NBC didn’t want Raines to succeed. They cut the legs out from under it from day one. Darn shame. It was a treat watching Goldblum in a series.A wonderful actor. It should have been on TNT,USA or FX. It would run for years.
