Last night, ABC wrapped up the first season of 500 Questions, their new primetime game show. How did it do in the ratings? Is it a slam-dunk to be renewed for a second season or, will it certainly be cancelled instead?
Hosted by Richard Quest, 500 Questions lets some adult geniuses try to answer 500 very difficult general knowledge questions and win lots of cash — without answering three in a row incorrectly.
Airing over the course of seven evenings, the series debuted on May 20th to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.058 million viewers. It wasn’t a great start, even for a summer series.
The numbers dropped over the seven episodes but didn’t dip below four million. They averaged a 1.04 demo rating with 4.79 million.
Looking at the numbers, there’s really no reason for ABC to renew 500 Questions for a second season. It surely didn’t attract much attention as an “event”. Still, there is a chance that the network will bring it back for another short run, filling a gap in their schedule. It didn’t cost ABC much to make and it did maintain its (small) viewership numbers as people begin to cut back on their television viewing in the warmer months.
But, what do you think? Do you like the 500 Questions series? Cancel or keep it?
Boring and very lame! I expected something much better from ABC.
500 questions is grating and awful. I watched it for 30 minutes and that was enough. Can this show.
Loved it !! Please bring it back!
I was so disappointed when I found out it was ending just as I was really getting interested! My mom and I both loved it and would love for it to return! Please!
500 Questions offered an intriguing television “event,” though I don’t think I could take it for longer periods of time – just occasionally would be fine. Richard Quest did indeed seem out of place, with his boundless enthusiasm, disdain for some of the challengers (that first guy should really be given another chance.) Why did he have to mock them? It would have been a much more attractive show if it moved faster – dim the spotlights, give the challengers something to take home – like cash for every right answer from the winnings of the person they are challenging,… Read more »
Please bring it back soon. My husband and I loved it.
We loved it and were so disappointed to see that it only lasted one week. Would love to see it return but I believe putting it on every night was not a good idea. When Who Wants to be a Millionaire went to every night is when it’s ratings went down. Twice a week would be a better idea….but I enjoyed the fact that it was a game show that attracted the more intellectual contestant. I believe the latter is why Jeopardy has continued as long as it has.
WELL SAID JUDY, I LOVED IT!!!!
I really liked this show. It was interesting. Please keep this on.
Please please please keep it!
Too slow, also could use an American english-speaking host, too much drama
Very interesting concept, but would like to see less of he silly antics & posing from the contestants. Also, why do these quiz shows tend to hire annoying Brits as the host? He reminds me so much of the hostess on “Weakest Link”. Would love to see the show return, but Mr Quest, to be clear – I hope it’s one, two, three, and you’re gone..
DIDN’T BOTHER ME!
love love love it. husband and i keep waiting for the show to come back on. prompted us to check internet for its status. amazed poorly received. tis a natural progression to follow jeapordy.
This is a great premise but needs to be much faster paced. With a name like 500 Questions, I expect to see more than 30 or so in an hour.
You know why Jeopardy is popular? It’s because we get to play along. We really don’t care about the banter or the “drama.” We just want to play along. In an hour show, you should be able to fit well over 100 questions, easily. I’d watch a lot more if that was the case. I don’t care about the contestants. I want to play along.
Bring it back. My family and I loved it,
Please bring it back!!!! Love the show!!
