Last night, ABC wrapped up the first season of 500 Questions, their new primetime game show. How did it do in the ratings? Is it a slam-dunk to be renewed for a second season or, will it certainly be cancelled instead?
Hosted by Richard Quest, 500 Questions lets some adult geniuses try to answer 500 very difficult general knowledge questions and win lots of cash — without answering three in a row incorrectly.
Airing over the course of seven evenings, the series debuted on May 20th to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.058 million viewers. It wasn’t a great start, even for a summer series.
The numbers dropped over the seven episodes but didn’t dip below four million. They averaged a 1.04 demo rating with 4.79 million.
Looking at the numbers, there’s really no reason for ABC to renew 500 Questions for a second season. It surely didn’t attract much attention as an “event”. Still, there is a chance that the network will bring it back for another short run, filling a gap in their schedule. It didn’t cost ABC much to make and it did maintain its (small) viewership numbers as people begin to cut back on their television viewing in the warmer months.
But, what do you think? Do you like the 500 Questions series? Cancel or keep it?
I LOVE THIS SHOW. KEEP IT ON.
I love this show, please make more and get it on at least weekly!
Chlorine is not symbolized by a single letter as William stated in a Battle question. Colby knew it wasn’t, but the judges accepted the answer as correct. Fluorine is symbolized by one letter “F”. Chlorine’s symbol is “Cl”. Get judges who know the subject matter.
Because the questions are so challenging, it is not fun for the general audience. Not an engaging or fun show for most
I like this show. I would keep it because of the oddities compared to “traditional” game shows.
Loved the show, hope they bring it back
KEEP IT! I loved watching it! Favorite trivia show since Jeopardy! We need more shows like this that encourage intellect. I feel it has definite potential, despite what the ratings may show.
I saw all the episodes. It was alright and I was shocked that the end that the person who were about to play didn’t get to. I doubt it will get a 2nd season, but overall it was good so I hope it will get a 2nd season.
BRING IT BACK, WAS A FABULOUS SHOW, GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE TO GAIN MORE POPULARITY!!!
I really enjoyed each of the six shows I got to see and would welcome another season. I particularly liked the way the season ended, with the professor and a former student [as I remember it] vying against one another.
The one thing I would like to see changed would be this: I felt it was anti-climactic for the contestant to erase two losses with one correct answer.
I loved the show and my mom and I watched every single episode! It was a real great show and people can learn alot from shows like this other then sitting in front of the tv watching NCIS or shows were the have crime and killing people!
I really wished they would bring the show back!
We were definitely enjoying the 500 questions game show, it even challenged us to try and answer the questions also. But it abruptly ended on the 7th episode at the end of the show a new challenger was taking the first position and the show ended and we’ve seen nothing else on it. Did they make any more episodes that just did not air? I would love for them to bring it back or are any episodes that were recorded but not transmitted through the network?
My family and I loved the show and we range from age 6 to age 76. It was very entertaining and educational. We definitely want it renewed.
Very educational
Pretty good show, but at times a little slow.
We found the program to be very interesting and held our attention for the entire time it was on. In my opinion, the timing of the presentation of the program, didn’t really give it a fair chance. To be fair, it should be brought back at a time that would give it a better marketing trial.
A show that makes one realize how much there is to know and rellize how little I know
