NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
We loved “AllegianAllegiance”
So we are very upset!
Can’t believe NBC canned the show. Me and my entire family loved every episode; we were always surprised when an episode ended, that an hour had just blown by. Solid writing and a breakneck pace, great acting performances, was really enjoying it. Hope someone starts a petition to keep it on air.
Are you serious NBC? NBC should not have canceled Allegiance! it was such an entertaining show. I think the several millions that did watch the show deserve some closure, at least air the shows already filmed and finish the season.
NBC doesn’t even give us a chance to know if we like it or not. I was just getting into it and now its gone !!!! Please at least give it a good ending….
Well, I guess I was one of the very few watching Allegiance. I was really getting into it. So disappointed to see it cancelled this quickly. I for one really enjoyed it!
Allegiance is probably one of the best and most suspenseful shows I have watched in recent times. It is a shame these networks screw the audiences who enjoy excellent acting and stories replacing them with complete garbage for so called broader a appeal. Most shows are DVR’d these days so they have no true feeling for what people really watch anyway! The Blacklist is also good but at least it has had a decent run. NBC (No Bloody Clue) aren’t even giving the show a chance and abandoning viewers mid launch. Five episodes? Give me a break. That’s like playing… Read more »
Allegiance is awesome! NBC should be patient. Please provide fans with closure by airing the remaining episodes. Furthermore, consider keeping the show. There are far worse shows on NBC!
Poor choice to cancel this show. You could at least finish the story. This is the last continuing story I will watch unless I have the entire thing on my DVR. Idiots!,
I’m so disappointed. I really like Allegiance. They didn’t even give it a chance. NBC sucks!!
Allegiance is a poor version of the Americans on FX, which itself is getting slaughtered in the ratings. I think it is .15 and less than a million total viewers. so if the original is getting taken out back, why would you expect the poor copy to do any better.
They need to move The Black list back to Monday night and get rid of the slap and find some comedies to place back on Thursday.
Neilson ratings seem to be done by a younger generation than myself. I have been approached twice by Neilson in a 4 month span, only to have them inform me my opinion was not needed. I am, alas, to old. I’m pretty sure there are other boomers that watch tv and would gladly offer their opinion on shows they watch. NBC is not the only network that does not give a new series a chance. Fox is right up there with them. Not only don’t they promote the new ones, but after one or two showings they cancel! Who can… Read more »
We should all watch basic cable
This show was dynamic and exciting- with great writing, acting and shot in real locations with beautiful cinema- like camera work throughout what little we got. It’s still weird to think of 3.4 million people not being worth just seeing it out. There is such a big curtain between us and the corporate choice makers. How these decisions are made and why certain metrics matter so much more than others- especially now that we’re in the post Netflix era will stay a mystery to us minions because they rely on statistical voodoo. The Americans ( I love the show) MIGHT… Read more »
There have been a lot of marginally to extremely successful US shows that were “copies” of other television series from other countries: Three’s Company (Man About the House, UK), Sanford and Son (Steptoe and Son, UK), Cosby (1996-2000) (One Foot in the Grave, UK), All in the Family (Till Death Do Us Part, UK), The Killing (Forbrydelsen, Denmark), Rake (Rake, AUS), Wilfred (Wilfred, AUS), Too Close for Comfort (Keep it in the Family, UK). The list goes on and on. Some of these were loosely based while others used the same scripts as the original (Sanford & Son and Three’s… Read more »
and what do the hit shows you mentioned all have in common and different from the flops of today? the hits were from 30 and 40 years ago, all the flops have been in the past ten years. so either the overseas shows are not that good anymore or the “remaking” is worse. in either case, the American version stink on a regular basis and should just go away. Run the original overseas version or don’t run anything.
Although I agree with what you said I don’t think it’s simply not getting high ratings on this one. After seeing how drastically the numbers went down in the targeted area I came to the conclusion that the show really seems to have more appeal to those of us above the target age and is shunned because that’s probably how the target age views it too. This is something for their parents…..Not them
Really enjoyed the show. Nice intensity and looked forward to seeing what would happen each week.
