NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
Loved this show. NBC really screwed up their schedule….why didn’t they leave the blacklist on Mondays???? They sink their own ship…..
I loved this show! It kept me on edge! Please bring it back.
I like the show, but for the life of me can’t figure out why a show made for an American audience is filled with Russian dialect and subtitles. I’m sure that having to constantly “read” the screen turned many viewers off, as even a small viewing distraction ruins the show. That’s why many Americans don’t watch foreign films with subtitles. Seems like this would be a no-brainer, but then, this is NBC.
Can’t believe they canceled this show! I personally thought it was a great show… They need to finish out the season and give the show to another station.
I love the show, it was really compelling and well written. I hope NBC reconsiders cancelling the show.
I am surprised how abruptly Allegience was cancelled. It was worth a longer trial.Anything is better than the canned laughter comedies.
Love the show should have give it a chance to catch on.
I have no idea why they’re cancelling. This show is original and very well done! Extremely bummed to hear this.
I hope to see ninth episode tonight – just not on NBC directly. It should be on my Comcast In Demand.
I’m so disappointed that this show was cancelled I was really enjoying it and checking to see when the 2nd season was starting 🙁
It always amazes me how the best written shows along with superb acting can get the axe after a few aired episodes. I agree with the comment from Randy, at least don’t leave us hanging, finish out the current story line. Give the program to another network that would appreciate a great show.
LOVED IT Yes they should show the rest of it Shame on them for only giving it 5 showings
Love the show. ONE OF THE FEW ON NBC that I even watch anymore. KEEP IT – AT LEAST AIR THE REST OF THE SEASON!
I am addicted to this show! I LOVE it!! I’m so bummed that the network dropped it! PLEASE air remaining episodes!!!
I don’t believe NBC should have cancelled the series. they should air the remaining shows. 🙁
Love this show!! another network should take it and air it, and YES, they should put on all the remaining shows!
