The cast won’t be back but the show title will be. ABC has decided to renew their low-rated anthology series, American Crime, for a second season. The show currently airs on Thursday nights.
On the first season of American Crime, a home invasion in Modesto, California results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen. Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects and the victims fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed. The cast includes Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, W. Earl Brown, Richard Cabral, Caitlin Gerard, Benito Martinez, Penelope Ann Miller, Elvis Nolasco, Johnny Ortiz, and Regina King.
The series debuted in early March to positive ratings but they quickly eroded. Last week saw the series hit a new series low with a 0.9 rating and 3.63 million viewers. Despite a disappointing season of ratings, ABC is bringing American Crime back for a second season — with a new cast and storyline.
What do you think? Have you been watching American Crime? Did ABC make the right decision or should they have cancelled the show instead?
I love this show. I am glad that it will be renewed. I imagine each season will explore a different crime and a different setting? This season of American Crime is one of the best dramas I’ve ever seen, in any medium.
I am so happy this was renewed. A powerful show that deals with real issues in a real and believable way. Excellent acting/writing/direction/cinematography! Thank you ABC for renewing it despite low ratings.
This is too good of show/story for ABC/Regular TV. As some of the comments make clear; people couldn’t handle it (and REVENGE and SCANDALE are good?!?).
The characters are well thought out and the directing is outstanding.
Love all the actors. For the person who didn’t like Felicity’s character – should have hung in there. She met someone MORE racist and didn’t see it coming.
Sorry we won’t see these actors/characters next season, but glad the concept is returning.
They should have kept revenge and canceled american crime. Not looking forward to the season finale of revenge on Sunday.
This is one of the BEST shows on Prime Time this season!
And ALL of the actors are incredible. Each and every one.
Nitty gritty hard hitting show/reality/showing the everyday lives of
The poor and minorities in our justice system. The “norm” for these
Characters in their daily lives is struggle. I applaud the fox network
For having the courage to offer this to it’s viewers . VERY BOLD.
Powerful and insightful series. So glad it is returning. It is also shot entirely in Texas. It is refreshing to see such a groundbreaking series returning to TV. I’ve been caught up in the series since it began. It is so in touch with what is going on in our country. It brought a new perspective while exploring different sides of race issues. Looking forward to its finale!
Stopped watching after 3 episodes because Felicity Huffman’s character was making me feel ill, but will be happy try again next year.
Give it another shot Arlene. The characters develop throughout the season and, although her character is still not particularly likable, it is worth watching her and all the others evolve.
Indeed it is the character flaws that make the substance of the whole story.
Love this show and the cast they have. I will miss them. Hope the next season is good
After canceling FOREVER & THE TASTE… not to mention REVENGE, I won’t be tuning in to ABC except for The Middle. Canceling FOREVER is a big mistake.
I was watching American Crime but now I won’t bother.
I didn’t know “Forever” is being cancelled. If that is the case, then I too am done with ABC. I love “Scandal” and “How To Get Away With Murder” but I really love “Forever” so I might be saying goodbye to ABC also. There are some good shows on ABC but I am sick and tired of them cancelling my favorite ones. I will miss “Revenge” and always looked forward to the new episode every time.
I have watched every episode.
I like drama. ..and this story is one fine drama.
Really wonderfully written and with
Some superb acting. Its not a happy story ….but it’s reality.
This is a great show because it’s relevant to what is happening in the world. One of my favorite actors was Johnny Ortiz ,Felicity Huffman, and Tim Hutton. There acting is so strong and real. Although it will be a great show if they all came back it will be great ,yet thanks for this great show and all the abcs production workers ,and writers who help this show possible.
This is a great show, hopefully they bring a other season. Well their be a other season with the same actors.
congrats to abc tv!! i believe that this series is one of the most powerful dramas on tv. unfortunately, it seems like people prefer lighter fare–which is okay, too–than hard-hitting reality from all perspectives. some of the cast members were great, including felicity huffman, but i understand the shake up that will take place for the second season.
Incredible show in every way, great news it’s renewed…even if this means the last episode next week will wrap up this season’s storyline rather than leaving us hanging—we will miss the unforgettable cast and characters! This would be superb viewing even on cable, really quite unthinkable to find such excellence and complexity on network TV, but I guess the “ratings” explain why the networx have no reason to bother with anything this ambitious: who cares? Thank you, ABC, for this gift. And for repeating it despite the general disinterest! We’ll be there…
Agree wholeheartedly! Let’s get the positive reviews flowing.
