The cast won’t be back but the show title will be. ABC has decided to renew their low-rated anthology series, American Crime, for a second season. The show currently airs on Thursday nights.
On the first season of American Crime, a home invasion in Modesto, California results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen. Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects and the victims fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed. The cast includes Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, W. Earl Brown, Richard Cabral, Caitlin Gerard, Benito Martinez, Penelope Ann Miller, Elvis Nolasco, Johnny Ortiz, and Regina King.
The series debuted in early March to positive ratings but they quickly eroded. Last week saw the series hit a new series low with a 0.9 rating and 3.63 million viewers. Despite a disappointing season of ratings, ABC is bringing American Crime back for a second season — with a new cast and storyline.
What do you think? Have you been watching American Crime? Did ABC make the right decision or should they have cancelled the show instead?
An EXCELLENT show to watch on so many levels. Can’t wait for this seaso to be releasd on DVD to add to my personal collection. KUDO’S to all the wonderful actors of Season ONE.
I love this show..I hate to see many actirs go…but I am sure next years cast and storyline will be stellar..just dont want to see all the good cast killed off so quick like this season….
Love the show! I very seldom watch any kind of series, but I watched A.C.every week and thought it was great. Looking forward to next season
Fantastic show. The fact that the ratings are low is a reflection on a typical American audience, not the quality of the show.
Fantastic show. Acting was superb. Can hardly wait for next season
Terrific plot, outstanding acting, wonderful directing, amazing insight into a difficult situation and personalities; of course it will be cancelled other than the title, How sad!
Glad to see this coming back. Another great, thought-provoking program.
Sadly, given all the cancellations on the big 4 networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC), it seems that anything thought-provoking that requires time for character development and growth of the show is becoming a thing of the past. Even though it appears this show will change story lines season to season, at least it will continue to provide great story lines, characters, and acting. Unfortunately it seems network programming will be mostly mind-numbing reality shows and celebrity competitions in the near future. Too bad.
Excellent cast, writing, directing–American Crime is far above network TV typical crime drama. Relieved it will return for another season.
I agree
Agree with all of the comments offered. I don’t have Netflix, so I’m so excited to have access to such a high quality choice on Network TV. Will miss the first season’s characters. It seems like it will take a lot to outdo the first run.
The show is outstanding and I am disappointed to hear that it has low ratings. It’s breadth is outstanding for network television. The exploration of broken families, racism, stereotyping, immigration, religious beliefs, military service, addiction, and its portrayal of the American criminal justice system are thought-provoking and gut wrenching. I see this as a medium to re-awaken America to the issues most of us see and ignore in our every day lives of living in American cities. I am relieved to hear that it will be back. The acting by the entire cast is outstanding. One can easily understand Felicity… Read more »
Extremely real. “Normal” folks don’t know that these situations and families are real. Perhaps it appeals to a regional audience who have been to Modestpoo. Following the four veins of family history is not a stretch of the truth and is truly a very thought provoking series. I love the cast and can’t wait for Thursdays!
The acting in american crime is outstanding, each cast member is excellent. I love the story line between Carter and Abury. Felicity Huffman and Cailitin Gerard should get an Emmy Award. The show is wonderful!
Raw, gripping, real life drama. Some scenes are so touching, brings tears to my eyes
This is a GREAT show. The American public is crazy for not watching!
I never get polled for TV shows. Would love to have been asked my opinion on this one, because I think it was excellent. Maybe it hit too close to home for some folks, or had subject matter they’d rather not think about….but that’s exactly what makes it good. It beats the heck out of most of the mindless entertainment, especially “reality shows”, that’s available on TV every night. Can’t wait to see the next season.
