The cast won’t be back but the show title will be. ABC has decided to renew their low-rated anthology series, American Crime, for a second season. The show currently airs on Thursday nights.
On the first season of American Crime, a home invasion in Modesto, California results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen. Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects and the victims fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed. The cast includes Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, W. Earl Brown, Richard Cabral, Caitlin Gerard, Benito Martinez, Penelope Ann Miller, Elvis Nolasco, Johnny Ortiz, and Regina King.
The series debuted in early March to positive ratings but they quickly eroded. Last week saw the series hit a new series low with a 0.9 rating and 3.63 million viewers. Despite a disappointing season of ratings, ABC is bringing American Crime back for a second season — with a new cast and storyline.
What do you think? Have you been watching American Crime? Did ABC make the right decision or should they have cancelled the show instead?
I love this show it’s the best show on television. Definitely one of those shows that make you think and has you hook for the following week. please don’t cancel this show it’s too good to be taken off
Glad ABC reviewed for another season
I’m a TV junkie. I must say this was one of the best shows I have Ever watched. The writing the acting the direction the storyline were excellent. I’m sorry that shows have to measured by ratings but glad ABC Did one smart thing this year and kept the show for next year I look forward to next season
can’t say more than all the other positive emails have said about how great this series really is. from the beginning I was wondering just how long the plot could keep on going but by deciding to change it for every season seems like a good idea. just will miss the terrific acting abilities of most of the cast. as for low ratings, it just goes to show of how minimally viewers want to have to invest their minds while viewing a great show. that to me is the saddest state of many series today. This show was one of the best, if not the best on TV! The plot, acting, filming (camera angles and audio was fantastic). There should be numerous Emmy nominations – Felicity Huffman was nothing short of superior. Every cast member was relatable. It was possibly too real for some but my husband and I were engrossed from start to finish. I am hoping the next series will be as good.
Agree
Great show with great acting.Wish there were more shows which portrays characters so realistically.Great story line.I looked forward to watching it each week.Glad there will be a second season.
This was probably the best show on television. I was shocked to read viewership was low. I was waiting from week to week, to see what happened. I’m still reeling from the season finale!
Great show…great cast…intelligent writing..suspenseful…..catch it next season…I’m sure it will be terrific!
Agree
Well said
Amazing show, great story line and acting. It will be cool to have different cast and storyline each season. Very happy show is coming back. Don’t understand why ratings were so low!
Gut-wrenching, true-to-life story that depicted the destruction that one seemingly isolated criminal incident causes and all the intertwined layers and complexities. Some of the finest acting I have seen in years … especially Felicity Huffman. She simply blew my mind with her fearless, bare-naked portrayal of an irreparably damaged woman in denial about her relationships, her beliefs, her son, and her entire life. A lush oasis in the midst of a desert populated by inane reality shows and oversaturated with unrealistic crime and medical dramas … blah-blah-blah-blah-blah. Excitedly looking forward to the second season. TYVM for the wise decision to… Read more »
You nailed it. I watch my share of “reality” shows and unrealistic shows like Grimm but this show was true reality. Maybe that’s why the viewership was low – to much like real life. The acting was beyond words.
I enjoyed the show. I do believe that possibly changing the story line each season would keep it more interesting. I hope to see American Crime for many seasons to come.
@ELISE; I TOTALLY AGREE
I have been hooked on this new program.
The actors are outstanding. I do not understand why this
program has not had the higher viewership.
Felicity Huffman……..outstanding performances!
Agreed! Amazing show!
Great show. Really enjoyed the storyline.
I’m glad there is a 2nd season.
I watched every episode! Very realistic, which might be hard for some to watch. Glad to know that show has been renewed for a second season.
Very hard to watch due to being so accurate and real. Excellent writing
I do not understand how the ratings on this tv series was poor. It was a great story line that deals with what is going on in our society today. The series always kept me on my toes wanting more especially the finale. Looking forward to season two with the new cast and storyline!
I began watching this show because I like Felicity Huffman as an actress. She certainly didn’t disappoint me nor did the rest of the cast. It was an excellent series and the ending was shocking yet understandable. I guess it shows that a crime doesn’t just affect one or two people and brought into focus race, religion, love, hate, drug addiction, forgiveness, truth, lies and socio-econimical struggles. Certainly looking forward to next season.
Perhaps the ratings dropped because it is TOO real for people to deal with. Not stereotyped or with easy to digest answers. Acting, plot, film technique, etc. excellent. Look forward to next season.
