TV show description:
Hosted by designer Nate Berkus, this reality competition pits contestants — experienced designers and home builders — against one another as they come up with creative home transformations.
In each episode, two teams take on a brand new project and are asked to redesign and renovate the space from the inside out in a matter of days. From Spanish to Tudor to mid-century modern, the designers are expected to produce sweeping home renovations that bring a fresh, modern sensibility — while remaining true to the home’s innate charm and design characteristics.
The outcomes are judged by Berkus as well as Eddie George, a former NFL all-pro who’s now a renowned landscape architect, and interior design expert Monica Pedersen.
The judges review the finished work and determine which team achieved the best results. After facing the panel of judges, the losing team must send one member home. In the final episode of the season, the remaining two designers take on renovations for two impressive Southern California homes and bring their unique visions to life.
Episode #10 — Beach Home
After nine weeks and 19 renovations, the final two designers — Lukas Machnik and Jay Riordan (both from Chicago) — meet their final challenge. In their biggest renovation to date, they must transform two dream beach homes in Ventura, California. They are reunited with a few surprise guests to help them. In the end, Machnik wins the grand prize of $250,000 and is crowned as the first (and only) American Dream Builder.
First aired: May 25, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like the American Dream Builders TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I hope the show returns next year and that Nate finds a razor in the meantime.
I was happy with the outcome of the show, black beach house not withstanding. The objective was to select one person as the winner and not one team. Lucas designed the whole interior and his team simply brought his vision to reality. The other house was overseen by The General but many of the ideas were those of the other designers. An example was the deck. That was Darren’s concept and not Jay’s. Jay may be the best general contractor but not the best designer.
I liked the show and seeing the different ideas for decorating, but I hated the outcome of the final show of the season tonight. I feel that Jay won it hands down. Lukas was an innovative designer, but I would compare him with an artist that pushes the envelope with design to the point of where they no longer have two feet on the ground and lose touch with reality. A black beach house? Come on! Get real. Jay was robbed and it was a set-up. To be a fair vote, the neighborhood counsel should have been allowed to vote… Read more »
Wonderful and interesting show learned a lot and go great ideas. Taught me to think out of the box when redoing my home
Love it but would like it better with the designers didn’t do their snarky act. Its perfect to see their different styles. Looked forward to seeing it each week. I MISS IT!
Love the show I hope it is not cancelled.
I look forward to viewing the show each and every week. The ideas and designs are awesome. The only downfall of the show, if you ask my husband, is that it adds more to his honey do list.
I notice that the heading for this site is “Series Finale” and not “Season Finale”. Does anyone know if the show has been cancelled?
No but it’s doing very poorly.
i am loving american dream builders , nate has a really good thing going here .
I love the show and look forward to it. Unfortunately, it was not shown last Sunday nor is it on the schedule for this coming Sunday. I fear that it has been summarily cancelled without letting us see who won. I hope that isn’t the case as I am getting a lot of ideas for my own house from it.
The April 6 show Spanish Style. North Hollywood Ca. I really like it because My family owned the one on the left 65 years ago. Brought back a lot of memories. Thanks Jack
this show does not come close to the other show that used to be. oprah I know you like nate and so do I but this show is realy tooo gay. I doubt if it will make it
Is it possible for a show to be “Too Straight”. Some how I don’t believe that you would think so.
I really like the show but am appalled at the huge use of sod in the landscaping. Calif. is and has been in a severe drought and to plant all this grass is almost obscene. You have
created for these homeowners something that will take a lot of labor to care for, and
increase their costs to keep it alive. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a year, most of the front
lawns are gone.
Please consider helping my church. We really need a make-over. We feed and clothe people of the community but financially we are struggling. We feed by donations. But we don’t have the finances to help for new carpet and pews. Please consider remodeling our church. It would go a long way helping our community. Thank you so much.
I saw your series premiere and noticed you finally created a show for lower priced homes. I am so tired of watching home shows where the price is $300,000 to $500,ooo plus dollars. They are beautiful, but I will never be able to afford one. I spent 20 years living in military housing and now at the age of 50 finally have my own home. It maxed me out at $86,000 and I will probably never be able to upgrade, but it is mine. Please pick my home for one of your shows. I live in Mountain Home, Arkansas in… Read more »
I love the show, but always watched Nate’s show, great ideas. I love seeing the peoples faces just filled with joy after the makeover. But I would really love to know how to enter to get my house help. We moved from another state & were not here for the home inspection, It’s been 2 years and about $5000.00 in repairs we had to do, because the inspector missed them, I am a 2 time cancer survivor & now on disability due to 15 surgeries. How do I apply??? I have a single raised rancher house with woods behind me… Read more »
Please don’t cancel. This program gives the viewer a wonderful opportunity to excercise our “creativity” by watching experts take a simple home and convert it to livable, reasonable and sensible American home life. Go ADB!
We watched your show and love it. Would you please consider my brother in-laws cabin for your show. His moble home just burned down in Morino Valley and he is living temporarily in their 5th wheel travel travel until his wife has a needed surgey. Then they are planning to move to their cabin in Potlatch Idaho. This is a cabin they bought and planned to fix up when they retire. She retired 3 years ago and he just retired. They planned to sell their moble home and fix up their cabin but now that it burned with all their… Read more »
