Last night, NBC aired the season finale of American Odyssey. Though the show’s ratings have been very poor, there’s apparently still some hope that the drama will survive to see a second season.
Last night, executive producer Peter Horton wrote, “Seeing your comments all season, but especially tonight, best fans ever. Will let you know about season two tomorrow. xo #AmericanOdyssey”
Unfortunately for fans of American Odyssey, the ratings have not been good. The series debuted to low ratings — a 1.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.372 million viewers — and they’ve gotten much worse since then. Last week’s installment hit a new low with a 0.4 in the demo and 2.2 million.
6/29 update: Series co-creator Adam Armus has tweeted, “No news today dear #AmericanOdyssey fans. See you here tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.”
6/30 update: NBC has cancelled the series.
What do you think? Have you stuck with the series? Are you hoping that it will be renewed for a second season?
We need a s eco do series of American Odyssey. One of the best series in a long while,
I also question the demographic targeted for this show. It seems, once again, the folks at NBC failed to recognize who would be watching a program. So, how do they handle it? Poorly. They threaten to cancel a fantastic program simply because it has far more fans over the age of 49 (like myself) than under. I really wish networks would wake up and stop cancelling great shows because they bet on the wrong demographic. Wouldn’t it be smarter to adjust the advertising and air time to fit the demographic and keep fans happy? Let the kids have their shows… Read more »
I agree with everything you said. Love that show.
I believe the time of the show may have an effect on ratings since I am finding most people I talk to never heard of it, or saw previews but didn’t know when it was on. This story may be to close to home. It is one of the better shows with real content to it. Please don’t cancel.
I agree whole-heartedly. The networks did the same thing with Longmire. what you said was perfect:
” Wouldn’t it be smarter to adjust the advertising and air time to fit the demographic and keep fans happy? Let the kids have their shows like Undateable (yuck) and allow those us over 49 to keep great programs like American Odyssey.”
That is the case in a nutshell.
Preach it sister the demographics for this Type of programming is definitely 49+ because the younger set has zero interest in these types of programs.

Please renew this show!! Everyone in my family loves it. Great acting, storyline and suspense.
Story line is a good one. Writers just have to speed it up.. to keep the young folks alert. Good plot and writers could go really
Far and deep. Good story for all to think about. Please don’t cancel and give the writers another chance. Really enjoyed it and
Looking forward to Season 2….
It’s been a refreshing show away from all the reality shows. Would like to see it again.
we are absolutely hooked on this show. Please bring it back for next season. Fearing this depth of corruption is the real deal! Great story lines and great acting. Characters very well developed.
we would like to see season too the show is awesome
OMG me and my family love love this show… PLEASE don’t cancel
This was my favorite show this year!!! I can’t believe it did not do well — must be all those morons watching their vacuous reality tv shows (the worst thing that has ever happened to television). You have to do a season 2 and maybe change the time slot if it is not doing well. Also, how about spending some money on advertising. A lot of people did not even know about the show.
Just love this show and Odelle’s journey. Looking forward to Season Two. Please don’t leave us hanging.
Are you checking the pertinent demographics? We’re over 65, looks like our opinions may not matter! Please bring on Season 2, we are worried about what happens to Odell!
Addendum: Are you checking the pertinent demographics? We’re over 65, looks like our opinions may not matter!
We are sooo hooked on this series! How can you even consider canceling such an excellently written, produced and acted show? Please bring on Season 2…we need to know what happens next! I bet your rating system doesn’t take into account the times when the show is taped on the nights aired. Sometimes we’ve been unable to watch at the scheduled time but we do watch the recorded episode! Sometimes we watch the recording multiple times. How would your rating numbers look if you counted the actual number of viewings? I wonder how you determine your ratings, because we certainly… Read more »
Great point! I go to work at 530am, so I never watch it on Sunday night. I always watch it on Monday, as soon as I get home from work. As I said in my first comment, this show has me hooked like 24 had me hooked. I love the story line!!
Yes, delayed viewing via DVR is counted. and no, you haven’t been called and won’t be – ratings are not collected that way anymore.
I like the show too – though there are some big inconsistencies – but my wife and I would like to see it renewed, but alas, like you we are outside the key demographic so it likely won’t matter.
Would love to see second season
We watched this show faithfully all season. We would say that in action, suspense & overall storytelling, it rivals “Homeland”. It would be a shame to end the “series” with so many unanswered questions, i.e. Aslam for one. All characters the interweaving storylines were well realized & held our interest. The days when network TV was willing to take a gamble & actually show some loyalty to a struggling show, alas, are long-gone. What a pity. Perhaps a cable network will pick it up, brefulfilling conclusion.athe new life into it & let the story go to a
I’m sorry, but unless the writing improves, perhaps the show should be cancelled. Also, why the burning need to drag-out the plot? I’m a vet, and I gave the show a look-see only because of my natural skepticism with stories about war written by, well, non warriors. I very much much liked the story line. Yes, I’m a vet, but I have two daughters and a wife who’ve all been to the desert. Plus, your main character was very believable (to this vet at least). Why can’t there be a conclusion. I was so disappointed in the last episode! The… Read more »
I couldn’t disagree more. It is an excellently written and acted show.
