It’s the end of the world as we know it. Sky has cancelled the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV series after its first season. The British-American sitcom airs on NBC, stateside.
Season one ends after the meteor hits earth. The survivors, played by stars including Mathew Baynton, Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg, and Joel Fry, are ensconced in an underground bunker. Baynton was ready to tell the post-apocalyptic story, but Sky is letting the first and only season stand on its own.
Radio Times reports that Sky has decided against a second season of the show, for the narrative’s sake, which is rather refreshing. Here are the details:
“A story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back and has reached its natural conclusion,” the broadcaster told RadioTimes.com.
“The news that a comet was on a unavoidable collision course towards earth triggered a joyous, fun, 34 day dramatic countdown to the end of the world in You, Me and the Apocalypse. Our cast of characters did things they never believed they would do and gave us a show that was loved by critics and the audience alike.
“We thank the entire creative team, cast and everyone working at Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International Studios”.
What do you think? Do you wish the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV show had been renewed for a second season, or do you think Sky did the right thing? Let us know. (I feel fine.)
Cancelling shows after 1 season is lame….makes you weary to watch new shows. Why invest time to like the characters if the network won’t even bring the story to a cpnclusion? Makes me wanna watch Fox.
I completely agree
I really like the show. The cast and crew did a really great job with season one. There absolutely needs to be a 2nd season. Thanks again NBC for getting me hooked on a great show and then cancelling it.
Well it was not really NBC’s fault it was a british show created by SKY a network in England. I still wish is made season 2 just saying it is not really NBC’s fault.
This was a funny and creative show. I can definitely see a season 2 because there are still loose ends. Not believing in the end of some of the characters!
It’s the only network tv series I watch. Smart and funny. I’m sure it will be replaced with some more reality crap! Thanks nbc!
NBC had very little to do with it. The entire first season had already aired in the UK, long before it aired in the US. Needless to say, I binge-watched the entire season before most Americans even saw episode 1. haha. By the way, the UK version is way better, as they don’t censor language or nudity. Anyway, my point is that NBC was only the American distributor of the series. Which means that maybe they didn’t cancel it, but only chose not to air it in the US anymore. If that’s the case, then there are many sources to… Read more »
We want season 2 .It hardly seems fair to the audience to leave us all up in the air . Yes ,the world as we know it ends, but obviously there is more happening . After all “God” has plans . We would like some answers from the writer at least …I’ m really annoyed at getting emotionally invested and then it stops .
i can t bielive it :O
Please renew for season 2! So many possibilities. Great show
What a surprise. Great writing, great cast, totally refreshing for network tv – what other choice than to cancel it and make way for another night of “Dateline” or maybe a two episode special night of “Two Broke Girls.” That’s right the collective brain trust of NBC executives that gave us Two Broke Girls actually collects a salary at the end of the day. Time to re-up my Netfix account and join the mass exodus.
Really like this show. I want to see another season!
P.S. I’m calling Netflix
Probably cancelled by the same morons that cancelled Firefly
This has been a great show with a wonderful cast. I understand wanting to end on a high note and maintaining the integrity of this show. However, I selfishly want more. What if the bunker actually worked? What about following the characters into an afterlife that paralleled the earthy life because there is so much unfinished business ? Well one can dream, hope…
We liked it! Watched every one! Oddball, fun and entertaining – as usual, cancel that! Who is on that committee? Neat characters that were fun to watch.
Please re-consider and renew this show. It is GREAT!
This show was marketed pre-release as a comedy, while in reality it wasn’t the
slightest bit funny. That kind of marketing mendacity should get you cancelled, as it did.
