Lifetime hasn’t renewed Army Wives for a seventh season but has instead ordered 10 additional episodes for season six. The cable channel initially ordered 13 episodes last May and has now increased that number to 23 installments. Prior to this, the drama’s biggest season order has been 19 episodes.
According to Deadline, the cast and crew are currently filming the sixth season and this move will keep them in continuous production. Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva are the cable channel’s strongest shows and they understandably want to keep them going until they can launch other successful series. Last summer’s new dramas — The Protector and Against The Wall — weren’t big performers. One was cancelled and the other hasn’t been renewed yet.
The original Army Wives actors’ salaries expire at the end of the sixth season. By tacking on additional episodes, Lifetime doesn’t have to renegotiate with them to get more installments. The cable channel is supposedly offering each of the leads an increase of $10,000 per episode, far less than what they’d get if their contracts were renegotiated. The longer season will likely be broken up into two parts.
The cast and crew were expected to wrap season six by February which would have allowed the actors time to audition for new pilots. With Lifetime ordering 10 more episodes, pilot season will be long passed by the time they’re available. Sally Pressman has a holding deal with NBC that will have to be pushed back and Catherine Bell had been fielding offers from networks for new pilots.
It’s been suspected that season six is the show’s last. If that’s indeed true, Lifetime is getting as many episodes as they can out of the cast without having to renegotiate and increase their talent costs.
What do you think? Will there be a seventh season or is season six the end? How long should Army Wives go on?

We are invested in these characters. To end the show with us thinking that they died in a plane crash is horrible.
I lived the military life as a proud Air Force wife. It breaks my heart to see the show end this way.
I was resigned to the fact that season 6 was the end, until the last scene, which puts so many major characters’ fates undetermined. After such uplifting and inspirational story lines, this cliffhanger ending is totally inappropriate. A 7th season is the only answer that makes any sense.
This is an AMAZING show and to end it like they did for the finale…you have to bring it back!!
Lifetime you need to keep Army Wives going and pay the actor’s what they deserve. My family has watched this show since day one and we would be very disappointed if you cancelled it. I believe that not only is Army Wives entertaining but it also remind’s us of what our military and their families go through. I would like to know who decides when to end a program because alot of good show’s are taken off and replaced by more reality show’s. What happened to good television?
I think they should make a season 7 because we need it and we love it. It’s not fair you have to bring Army Wives back on it’s the BEST show ever!!!! Please keep it on please.
Best show on tv. I never miss an episode.
Please give us another season or at least more episodes. Best show on tv. Great acting. Love them all. Makes my Sunday night complete.
After watching the season 6 finale I will be one very mad fan of lifetime if they don’t continue with a 7th season of Army wives. It just can’t end with killing half the vast off that’s horrible.
Love the series Army Wives. As both a 20 female Army veteran and an Army wife of a 20 year veteran, this show is wonderful! I can feel the story from both sides. Please do not cancel !
Army Wives has been one of my favorite shows since Day 1. I have never missed an episode. I agree with all the previous comments. I hate reality shows and do not care for commedies. This is one of the best written and acted show on T.V. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL it. With the amount of money other actors (many of them less talented) make, you should give these people a raise. If you cancel this show my viewing of Lifetime will now be limited to Drop Dead Diva. Hope you don’t mind losing alot of viewers.

Please don’t let this be the last season I love army wives it change my mind about the army so please don’t take it from us
I DO NOT want to see Army Wives go away. My sister married into the military and after watching this, I finally understand how she is doing it. Also, the way season 6 ended was not even an ending. What happened to the plane? Did it go down or were the soldiers safe? What is going on with Claudia Joy? Her husband stayed on but she went from being the star to gone? I think we need a Season 7. This show was so inspirational to many families in the US. As stated by someone earlier as well: There isn’t… Read more »
please dont cancel army wives. this is the best show ever. soap operas go on for years, so why cant army wives be continued. hundreds of channels on cable and this is the one show i truly love. it ended with a phone call, which i know the plane must have crashed, but we would love to see what happens. i have watched the program for all 6 seasons and i feel a connection with the families.
I just watched the finale for this year. It certainly left the impression this would be the last season. I mean what good will it be without Roxie. Pamela and Claudia Joy have been two great losses. There are very few of the original women left and sorry, but the new cast does not compare by any means. I have so much enjoyed these years as my husband is military retired. I was not married to him during his duty years so this program has given me some insite as to what army wives go through as well at the… Read more »
