Lifetime hasn’t renewed Army Wives for a seventh season but has instead ordered 10 additional episodes for season six. The cable channel initially ordered 13 episodes last May and has now increased that number to 23 installments. Prior to this, the drama’s biggest season order has been 19 episodes.
According to Deadline, the cast and crew are currently filming the sixth season and this move will keep them in continuous production. Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva are the cable channel’s strongest shows and they understandably want to keep them going until they can launch other successful series. Last summer’s new dramas — The Protector and Against The Wall — weren’t big performers. One was cancelled and the other hasn’t been renewed yet.
The original Army Wives actors’ salaries expire at the end of the sixth season. By tacking on additional episodes, Lifetime doesn’t have to renegotiate with them to get more installments. The cable channel is supposedly offering each of the leads an increase of $10,000 per episode, far less than what they’d get if their contracts were renegotiated. The longer season will likely be broken up into two parts.
The cast and crew were expected to wrap season six by February which would have allowed the actors time to audition for new pilots. With Lifetime ordering 10 more episodes, pilot season will be long passed by the time they’re available. Sally Pressman has a holding deal with NBC that will have to be pushed back and Catherine Bell had been fielding offers from networks for new pilots.
It’s been suspected that season six is the show’s last. If that’s indeed true, Lifetime is getting as many episodes as they can out of the cast without having to renegotiate and increase their talent costs.
What do you think? Will there be a seventh season or is season six the end? How long should Army Wives go on?

Please dont cancel this show!! I look forward to watching it every Sunday. You did say it was one of the best shows on Lifetime with high ratings…why cancel it?
Please dont cancel Army Wives. That is a great show and something I look forward to every season. There is so little that is worthwhile to watch on other channels. Why cancel a good thing???!!!!
I LOVE THE SHOW BUT I THINK AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE WILL BE LOST TO AMERICANS THAT HAVE NO IDEA THE SACRIFICES FAMILIES ARE MAKING.
PLEASE RENEGOTIATE THE CONTRACT AND DO NOT LET THESE PROFESSIONALS “HANG OUT TO DRY”
THANK YOU ,ANNE O’CONNOR HENNESSEY
PLEASE _DON’T _ Cancel Army Wives…I have been watching since season1. This is a GREAT show! U would b FOOLISH 2 end it. I agree with the comment of ( keepthe veteran. cast that wants 2 stay..replace others with new). Whatever it takes 2 keep the show on air. PLEASE!!!
Are you crazy? Why would you cancel one of your highest rated shows to possibly never succeed again. I have often thought Hollywood execs were stupid, now I know they are stupid and ingorant.
In the real world, personnel turn over at an army base every few years. Why not bring in new cast so they don’t have to pay higher talent costs to keep the series going. A few of the veterans may stay, but hey… this is the army! Turnover is real-life!
Don’t cancel this is my favorite show I was military for years and this is a great show would be a great loss to be cancelled.
Don’t cancel this series! It beds to keep going. I started late and now I’m addicted! I watch the old seasons any chance I get! This show just can’t end! I just love it!
My Son has been in the Army, and both my Daughter in law and I both love to watch Army Wives! My son is currently stationed in Alaska and I live in the lower 48. The Army Wives show gives us that common bond. We love to watch the show and discuss what we think will happen. Please do not cancel the series!
PLEASE don’t cancel ARMY WIVES! I used to be one, and really identify with these women! As long as there is conflict in the world and families supporting their troops there will be a story line. The reality of life on a military base is that the “cast” changes all the time. This series can go on indefinitely, and there will always be fresh faces for new characters.
Of course, Army Wives should continue!!! Why cancel a show that is the #1 draw of women? That makes no sense!!! I do suspect Claudia Joy will be killed off due to Kim Delaney’s off camera issues though. I hope not, because CJ is the anchor character.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for seasons 7 & 8!!!
make season 7 8 9 and 10! this is one of the best shows ever made and all the cast are awesome, i dont care if they are getting older they are still good actors
This show has become an obsession of mine…im a guy buy I cry all the time watching this show….i have grown to love all the characters…please i beg you keep this show going it inspires me on all levels…im also making a TEAM ARMY WIVES T SHIRT ….THANK YOU FOR SUCH AN INSPIRATIONAL SHOW
This is literally the only show that watch and look forward to…I hope they keep it on! There is so much that they can do w/ this series. I hope the writers do more with it. Right now it is not looking good for another season as it seems some of the story lines are at a dead end. 🙁
Please bring back a season 7. This season it was competing with Desperate Housewives final season in the same time block. It is not fair to make this season the determining one. Please consider that some of us watch both shows. I prefer Army Wives and would watch it during the day on my computer so my kids don’t interrupt. I think if you have a season 7 you will see the numbers go up because the main show it was competing with this season is not there anymore. Please reconsider!
