After 54 years on the air and 13,858 episodes, As the World Turns has ended.
The last installment aired this afternoon and was filled with closure. Doctor Bob Hughes (Don Hastings) retired from the hospital , Barbara (Colleen Zenk) dissolved her partnership with Paul (Roger Howarth), Casey (Billy Magnussen) left for law school, Chris (Daniel Cosgrove) proposed to Katie (Terri Colombino), Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) and John (Larry Bryggman) got back together, and Janet (Julie Pinson) asked Jack (Michael Park) to be Lorenzo’s godfather.
It seemed like everyone’s storyline was wrapped up in some way, except for Luke (Van Hansis). As fans are well aware, he lost Reid (Eric Sheffer Stevens) last week and yesterday, said goodbye to Noah (Jake Silbermann). The closest he got was to be able to use Reid’s stethoscope to listen to Reid’s heart, now pumping in Chris’ body.
If you missed the farewell episode, here it is…
What do you think? Are you satisfied by the final episode, “The World Stops Turning”? Is there anything you would have done differently?
BRING IT BACK is what I think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok take a SMALL break but come BACK very SOON. Yes I am a guy and I know that not many guys watch soap operas. I got into ATWT a few years ago when I had a surgery I was stuck in bed all day and REALLY got into it. No I am not one of those sissy kind of guys either. In fact the last job I had was working construction. Now I have said all of this to say PLEASE bring it back I have nothing to watch anymore I LOVED… Read more »
First Guiding Light, now As The World Turns.I’ve been watching these (2) faves for many years. There is very little left to watch now.Not sure exactly why! I have enjoyed these stories on a day to day basis,so sorry to see it end.Nothing will ever be able to take it’s place.Any whooo!…thanks CBS for these wonderful shows. Now I’ll prepare dinner an hour early.I do feel as the at least some of the older cast should have been present, although I know they have gone on to other venues.FAREWELL!
The final show was just fine.
What else can I say, I wanted more, without really knowing what that more should be.
I didn’t want the show to end, that’s the more I wanted.
Also, could anyone tell me the name of the song and composer of the music at the end of the show. It started after “Last Dance” with Henry & Barbara, and played till the end. It’s very beautiful.
Thanks in advance.
ATWT, you’re a grand ol’ dame, and I’ll miss you!
The music is from the movie “The Prince of Tides”.
Just found out, so I thought I’ld answer my own question.
Thanks again ATWT.
I started watching AS THE WORLD TURNS back in1978 as a 9 year old sickly child who was often bedridden. My Mom got me interested in the show around the time Barbara Ryan made her first appearance.I watched the show through its many reigns of differnt writing staffs enjoying most of all Doug Marlands tasteful, rich and caring way of introducing the Snyder clan without affecting the established Hughes clan.I loved the storylines involving the hooking up of Lily and Holden,Lily finding out Iva is her birth mother,Ellie stealing Kirk from Iva!God,i miss the show already!!!!
The last show was very nicely wrapped up. Thank you for entertaining me while I took my lunch. I won’t be watching The Price is Right.
I started watching ATWT when I was ten and I watched the last episode–could have been a lot better, but then again–worse as well. Nothing suited me more than to see John with Lucinda again–I hated it when they broke up. That made the whole last show.
I am very sad that the network has decided to take As the World Turns off the air, my weekdays are not the same. I have watched this show for a very long time and wish that they would reconsider their decision and bring it back on the air.
they need to bring both the show back what a loss. major loss channel 5 only has two program. sad sad
I have thought of As The World Turns as a very special place in the life of so many of the viewers. It never ceased to amaze me, I used go to school and come home for lunch and I always knew when it was time to go back to school because there would be a commercial break and I knew if I did’nt leave then, I would be late. Then I went into the Navy and of course there was not any time to watch or listen to anything, except the people in charge of giving out orders to… Read more »
Ya know, some folks think that those who watch daytime dramas need to get a life. I take great offense to that. We certainly have lives. Watching other lives portrayed in differing situations is innate in all humanity. ATWT did it with style and grace — sometimes a bit silly, of course, but always riveting. The characters were as varied as real life — that was the true connection to “every-one.” Well, thank you, ATWT cast, for a wonderful show, poignant acting and the need for endless boxes of Kleenex. The last episode was one for the DVD collection, and… Read more »
alas commercials killed the soaps
Yes, today was very, very sad, as it was a lonely day with out hearing the sound of “As the World Turns” music come on like it usually had done for the past 54 years, my mother past away in 2005, a quite day that was, and still is. Another added quite day when “As the World Turns” went off for the last time Sept. 17, 2010. Good night
It’s the first Monday with no ATWT…I came late to the show, about three years ago, but I have enjoyed (and hated!) the show in all its twists and turns. I am just so perplexed as to how it wasn’t possible to find a new home for this how.
I will miss As The World Turns, I’ve watched the show for about 30 years off and on. That is true its nothing to watch but talk shows and judges. Taken it off the air is a bad decision.
I started watching ATWT when I was just a child with my grandmother. I spent countless summer days playing at her house and sometimes even watching the Soaps with her too. She has pasted on for many years now, but I have always kept up with her favorite shows. I was so sad to see the Guiding Light go off the air and now As the World Turns is gone too. Nothing will ever be able to replace those shows. I thought everything was closed up nicely. Only regrets is that more older characters weren’t brought back to share in… Read more »
