There won’t be any more Ascension, at least on Syfy. The cable channel has told Deadline that, “We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”
Airing in December 2014, Ascension follows an alternate reality in which, in 1963, President Kennedy and the government sent 600 volunteers (men, women, and children) into space on a century-long voyage aboard a self-sustaining generation ship. The cast includes Tricia Helfer, Gil Bellows, Brian Van Holt, Andrea Roth, Brandon P. Bell, Jacqueline Byers, Tiffany Lonsdale, and P.J. Boudousqué.
When Syfy ordered the six hour episodes of Ascension last year, the plan was to make it a regular series if the mini-series was successful enough — ala Battlestar Galactica. The ratings were okay but certainly nothing to write home about.
It’s unclear if the producers will try to find a home for Ascension elsewhere.
What do you think? Did you like the Ascension series? Would you have watched it as a regular weekly TV show?
Just finished Ascension season 1 on Netflix and am incredibly disappointed that there are no plans for a season 2 – the show is captivating and unique and I am hoping against hope that Ascension finds a way to continue this fantastic story. Perhaps its presence on Netflix will spawn a great interest in the show and Syfy will choose to continue the series – fingers crossed!!!
I just finished this series on Netflix not knowing it had been cancelled. I thought it was a clever and interesting show and would live to see the series continue or at least have a finale movie to wrap the story up.
My husband and I loved this show! Besides Galactica it could have touches of “House if Cards” and “Mad Men”. There is so much you could do with it that would appeal to anyone who ponders about our future in the hands of an American government space program.
I LOVED this show!!! why did they cancel it? I’m dying to know what happens! Fabulous storyline and interesting premise, SOOO BUMMED!!!
I had never heard of the series neither until it started on “Super Ecran” the French version of the “Movie Channel”. I just watched the final episode tonight and can’t believe there will not be a sequel to all this..!
The show must go on!! I loved it and it left me hanging, waiting for the answers! They can’t just leave it like this without another season, or at least a movie that would finalize the story – like they did for the “Firefly” series and the movie “Serenity”.
I loved it! I’ve never heard of it until I saw it on Netflix. I hope they continue this show.
Same for me, i had no clue about that show until i found it on Netflix and I want to see more story after it. I hope Syfy will reconsider it to get it back show again.
Let the people that can make this happen know.

i absolutely loved this series! I watched it oN Netflix and have been anxious to see more. Make it a Netflix series if none else. The fans like me are waiting anxiously..
Great show. Needs more space effects however great story.
A second season has to happen!! On a more major channel than scify!! This show is epic full of amazing twists and turns and the season finale left me craving so much more! A petition needs to happen!
I love this show! I can’t believe they didn’t renew it!
I absolutely love this show. I loved the idea of this contained world–the ‘crisis’ when one realizes they have met everyone they are going to meet (except babies) and go everywhere they will ever go. And the idea that some of the teens may get to see a sun or a beach and that keeps their dreams alive. The Christa superpower’s thing was my least favorite part of the show, but the ending hooked me in. Why did she always have this open gaping mouth and was it control of water that she had? First time was at the pool,… Read more »
It was an interesting concept but the first two episodes didn’t grab me and really weren’t any different from every other TV drama out there aside from being set on a spaceship (you can’t even tell it’s on a spaceship half the time). Once I looked around and saw that it wouldn’t be renewed for a second season it just wasn’t good enough for me to finish watching the first one.
I absolutely loved the first season. Kept me on edge and provided all the drama and anticipation a viewer could ask for. I was very sad to see that there was no more after the first season, I hope that they will continue this show!
