It appears that plans for season three of BBC’s Atlantis have sunk. The TV show, which airs on BBC America here in the States, has been cancelled after two seasons.
On Atlantis, a young man named Jason (Jack Donnelly) goes in search of his long-missing father and ends up on the shores of ancient Atlantis. He’s befriended by a pair of unlucky locals — former prize fighter Hercules (Mark Addy) and intellectual Pythagoras (Robert Emms) — as well as a revered Oracle (Juliet Stevenson). Others in the cast include Sarah Parish, Aiysha Hart, and Jemima Rooper.
BBC announced the show’s cancellation this way: “The final seven episodes of Atlantis will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned. We are very proud of both series but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through.”
Six of the 13 episodes of season two have aired so far in the US. No word on when they’ll be released here.
What do you think? Do you like the Atlantis TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Absolutely loved Atlantis, with all the little twists on Greek mythology. Why does the bbc aways cancel shows just when the audience really start to enjoy the story line and feel for the characters! Please bring it back so we can have a happy ever after!
bring atlantis back, bring atlantis back ! you people are so stupid. great story line, great actors, humor, suspense, monsters you guys had it all including mark addy, and you threw it all away. SHAME ON YOU ! DUMB – ASSES !
Well BBC you do it once again why cancel something that is working and not even giving it an ending even thou you have got BBC 1,2,3, etc even the little ones have to now watch their programmeso on their own channel way down the channel list near to the adult channels and we have to pay the large fee for a licence for programmeso that we may just get into to be axed for something else or repeat after repeat of one’s we have seen over and over again get your act together as Saturday night was just about… Read more »
BBC! Please continue the atlantis series for season 3.I love that! Me and my all friends of SriLanka want atlantis season 3! If you dont continue it, that will be real loss! Because Arrow and Flash is becoming popular.Thanks.
I love this show .there is something to be said for not stirring the pot or adding any more ingredients
No I don’t think a great show atlantis should be cancled. Series should have a emd not leave hanging. Would love to watch anouther season. Love atlantis
The Atlantis series should not have come to such an abrupt end. At least allow the series to go out with an acceptable ending. How many authors hope to become successful by selling books the author just got tired of writing halfway through the story? It is more frustrating than listening to someone who only uses incomplete sentences to communicate. Perhaps another company will be gracious enough to pick up what the BBC has let go. :'(

So disappointed with the ending and gutted there will be no third series. It made such a change to have some good family drama on a Saturday night. No doubt it has been axed to make way for yet another game show. BBC – listen to your viewers!!!
I’ve been commenting on Renewing Atlantis for some time, SO!!,once again RENEW!!
Once again the BBC has let down all it fans – such a disappointing ending with so many loose ends – they ought to be ashamed of themselves
Have watched all the episodes and enjoyed them but disgusted the way it was cancelled with no proper ending they do that with so many shows never a proper ending all the reality shows and rubbish on these days bring back the Royal
And Heartbeat whoever is in charge of B B C has no idea of what the public really want and we have to pay a television licence for a load of mostly rubbish
Dear BBC I would also like to express my disappointment at the decision not to make a third season of Atlantis, it took the viewer into a world of fantasy, much as Merlin did by the same writers; I appreciate that with the government refusing to allow you to increase the licence fee, you have to cut your coat according to your cloth, but like other peoples comments, it’s a pity that there are so many loose ends that needed to be tied up—what with the magical return from the dead of Pasiphae, and whether or not Ariadne claims her… Read more »
Thought the end was really bad, nothing had been changed from the first episode of this second series. Back into the woods and trying ones again to safe Atlantis. So we will never have a real ending to it and evil always wins here.
Why ‘Jason’would want to try to safe Atlantis is beyond me anyway, the people turn back to the evil queen every time, so why bother!
And why was the last scene looking as if tehre would be a follow up?
I really enjoyed this show and I also wish that they had done a 2 hour series finally that put closure on the characters , especially the main ones. So disappointed of how it ended. But I really loved it and the characters
Atlantis started off as a bit of a ‘slow burner’ but just got better and better as the story lines developed and became more complex and compelling viewing. I watched the last episode of Atlantis and was so disappointed that the viewers were left with more questions than answers. If the BBC knew this series was not to continue why did they not just commission a final show that wrapped everything up conclusively. In a way it would have been better just to leave it where it ended earlier in the year rather than give us expectations that were not… Read more »
