It appears that plans for season three of BBC’s Atlantis have sunk. The TV show, which airs on BBC America here in the States, has been cancelled after two seasons.
On Atlantis, a young man named Jason (Jack Donnelly) goes in search of his long-missing father and ends up on the shores of ancient Atlantis. He’s befriended by a pair of unlucky locals — former prize fighter Hercules (Mark Addy) and intellectual Pythagoras (Robert Emms) — as well as a revered Oracle (Juliet Stevenson). Others in the cast include Sarah Parish, Aiysha Hart, and Jemima Rooper.
BBC announced the show’s cancellation this way: “The final seven episodes of Atlantis will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned. We are very proud of both series but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through.”
Six of the 13 episodes of season two have aired so far in the US. No word on when they’ll be released here.
What do you think? Do you like the Atlantis TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
This is so disappointing. This was one of the few tv shows that I enjoyed watching. Not much good on regular American tv. I really liked the story, cast and location.
I’m really disappointed in the show’s cancellation. It’s difficult to find entertaining shows that aren’t the same as everything else. Is the network doing their business planning one week at a time? Who is in charge there? Why renew for Season 2, only to cancel it mid-season??
I think this cancellation is a lack of respect for all television viewers
One of my favorite shows. Very disappointing news!!!
REALLY???? As an English teacher for over thirty years, I was thrilled to find ATLANTIS! Why cancel an intelligent decent show? I hope they reconsider.
It is my belief that this always happens when my husband and I get to REALLY liking a television show! We LOVED ‘Atlantis’!! The executives at BBC One are completely clueless! I understand that the majority of BBC One’s audience is of a “mature” (really, just OLD) nature, but come on!!
Typical BBC. They have the attention span of an Irish setter. One or two seasons and they get bored with a show. Even Dr. Who is getting “where’s waldo” treatment. They have completely lost momentum and will likely soon cancel it due to lack of interest on their part.
~It’s ashame they Cancelled it. I’m Boycotting All BBC Channels for a Good Long while as a Result. Good Day.
I do not understand why they cut show that are different and really great to watch that was my Saturday night date now it will be gone they are taking all the good shows away and replacing them with really bad shows. I am at a lose of why these TV people owners broadcasters etc, decide to get rid of something that is good and replace it with some thing that is really bad but also leave the other shows that are just as bad on as well. TV is getting to a point to where we the viewers don’t… Read more »
Well done, BBC . Another show that
would have been good you turned into
crap by cancelling it half way through.
I really liked this show and am disappointed at it being cancelled when so many
worse shows go on and on. I’ve always liked Greek myths ( I am a big fan of Jason and the
Argonauts) and Atlantis really hit the spot with me.
How dare they. *smh*
This was my Saturday night date I tune in every night and watch Im so sad that it has been cancelled that was not a good decision
This show was my favorite of any right now. So original and exciting! =(
When will we be seeing the last show that wraps up the short lived show Atlantis? I did read that this was being done,or was that a lie to placate people whom loved the show?
