Rainn Wilson had a long run on NBC’s The Office but his own TV series Backstrom has been cut short. FOX has cancelled the series after one season of 13 episodes.
On Backstrom, an offensive, irascible yet brilliant detective (Wilson) is brought back from exile to run Portland Police Bureau’s Special Crimes Unit. The rest of the cast includes Genevieve Angelson, Dennis Haysbert, Kristoffer Polaha, Page Kennedy, Beatrice Rosen, and Thomas Dekker.
The show debuted in late January to a decent 1.95 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.98 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers took a big dive in episode two with the ratings falling more that 30%. They fell almost as much again in week three. After a brief rebound, the numbers kept sinking lower and lower.
The 13th and (now) final episode drew a 0.7 in the demo with 2.8 million viewers. The ratings were just too low to justify a second season.

This show was deleted? what the hell? It was amazing, and had everything I love in a show. It had action, thought provoking scenes, and was very funny. The fact that it was canceled makes me very sad and upset at FOX, for cancelling yet another brilliant show.
One of the best detective show place bring it back.

So upset this will not continue. Loved the humor and looked forward each week to the new episode. I wish it would have had a second season. I think it would have grown in popularity if given a chance.

Backstrom was a nice and simple version of Sherlock. So sad
maybe it’s like Seinfeld…takes a minute to catch on, but once it does – look out! I really enjoyed Backstrom and was looking forward to the 2nd season. I’m so sad it’s been cancelled!
I have been waiting for season 2 for a long while now. Honestly, Backstrom is the most refreshing thing ever; it’s the only show my boyfriend can watch happily together. Give it a chance.
I have been waiting for the second season And now find out it is cancelled. I so looked forward to watching it during the first season. I watched it on Hulu. I think if it were brought back it would have a decent following.
I loved the show. I am so sad that it was not renewed. I had told all my friends about it and posted it on facebook etc. It was hillarious with great intreging story lines!
I liked this series and would have liked to see another season.
Give it a second go. They did with Unforgettable. He is like the police version oh House.
I love the story and characters. It’s a great show. I’m disappointed and missing it.
