It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
Great show. Anyway to keep from being canceled?
Highly original show – creative individual characters with ensemble ability. Please don’t cancel!
I agree with a prev post: The writing for CSI Cyber is so
Incredibly weak. It’s as though the writers are counting
on the majority to not to be sufficiently tech-savy to mind
all dopey dialog plus the nonsense. “Battle Creek” is well
written, the characters engaging and it’s the one being cancelled.
Pity!!
This was one of the more original shows in a long time. Tha chemistry between the lead characters was very refreshing. Maybe it’s numbers would be better if it didn’t follow 2 shows thar geared more to a female audience. Give it a chance after a show like NCIS. Would Csi: Cyber have made it in this spot. Hey, USA Network; here’s a good fit for you!!
Even though I am above their preferred demographic, I saw Battle Creek as smart and refreshing. Sorry CBS did not invest in better advertisement, and/or try moving it to a different night before they cancelled it. Obviously the people running CBS are not as creative as the Battle Creek writers!!
I think Battle Creek is interesting and funny. The characters are complementary and engaging. I give it four stars. Try a different time slot. Don’t give up.
fu cbs
JUST STARTING TO LIKE BATTLE CREEK
Leave it to the networks, which are being outgunned by cable to cancel a quirky, interesting show without giving it a chance. Ratings or no, I like it. The characters are interesting and the writing is pretty sharp. For crying out loud CBS NCIS, CSI NEW YORK and worse CSI MIAMI on for years. I only have antenna TV, and am not one of your Neilsen taters, but I can stop watching CBS. Deleting my phone app as we speak. Dumb a__es!
I love this show! Please don’t cancel!!
I never comment on shows, but CBS is nuts to cancel Battle Creek. It is a good show, funny, good characters, very decent scripts and refreshingly new personalities. How about cutting loose some of the reality crap to make room for some legitimate entertainment? You missed the boat.
By the way, my recollection is that Hill Street Blues was also supposed to be cancelled after its first year – and we know how that turned out! Give a decent show a chance and maybe put it in a better time slot, rather than late Sunday night.
CBS really did get this one wrong. Battle Creek is a refreshing new crime drama and Dean Winters and Josh Duhamel have a great rapport on screen. Finally a breath of fresh air in the crime drama genre, and it’s being canceled. Move it to a different time slot. It’s one of the best new shows on television this season. It deserves another chance. Please don’t cancel it. Why would you cancel a show that is well acted with great story lines. Please reconsider, CBS!
Battle Creek is a wonderful show that CBS put on at the worst possible time.Sunday night at 10pm. All CBS Sunday night shows get pushed back to a later time because of afternoon sports running over. Battle Creek never got a real chance starting late in the season in a bad time slot. They should moved it to a different night instead of canceling it. But network execs are too dense to figure this out.
I am very disappointed in CBS, I doubt they will even read this post, but just in case. Battle Creek is an awesome show with just the right mix of humor and seriousness. Too bad the powers that be at CBS are too stupid to realize it. Oh well, just another mistake by the soon to bottom of the ratings network if they keep up these kind of decisions. I now only see 3 networks to watch.
CBS needs to take a risk w/ a 2nd season. It also needs to promote the show more…and, differently. It is a great show. Great characters & story line. The 2 shows leading into Battle Creek are watched primarily by women. Battle Creek needs to advertise more for that audience. They will be loyal to this show. I am one of them
