Positive thinking certainly didn’t help NBC’s new reality series, Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, in the ratings. The TV show’s been pulled after just two episodes.
In Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, self-help master Tony Robbins seeks to help ordinary people overcome big challenges so that they can begin living their lives to their true potential.
The first episode of Breakthrough got off to a very poor start with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and only 3.12 million viewers. That put the debut in fourth place in both areas.
This week’s installment attracted about the same in the demo but total viewership fell to 2.76 million viewers. How low could the ratings go?

We won’t get to find out. NBC has pulled Breakthrough effective immediately. They’ve replaced it with repeats of Minute to Win It for the foreseeable future.
This leaves four episodes of Breakthrough on the shelf, unaired. The network hasn’t made any indication that they’ll burn off the remaining installments. There is no way that NBC will be ordering any more episodes and the show’s been confirmed as cancelled.
What do you think? Did you like Breakthrough with Tony Robbins? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed in attracting more viewers?

Ratings run the business. But let’s face it. Only 5-10% of the population actively does something to improve their lives.
America is much more interested in their growing belly buttons as long as someone else pays the tab.
Why do I say this? Very close to 50% of the population is working for the government or on the public dole.
I agree with Melody-Rose and most of the other people who’ve commented already. I don’t think I ever saw an ad for the show, and I heard about it only through Tony Robbins’ company (I was invited to be in the audience during the live taped ending for the episodes, and I was there for some of them). It seems that the people who actually saw the show liked it, but not enough people saw it. It’s almost as if NBC was counting on Tony Robbins to do all the promotion work for them. I understand there were eight episodes… Read more »
Like I’ve been saying on Facebook, NBC didn’t give this show a chance. When ABC put on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, they let the audience build. Now, look at their following. I hardly ever watch NBC, and it feels like it might be do to their short-sidedness. Seems like their execs are into quick success/fast buck!
There definitely was not enough advertisement. I did not realize Tony had a show. Thank goodness my husband taped one of the shows, and I finally had a chance to sit down to watch the show last night and I loved it. It is a shame that they pulled the show so fast, there are other ways to resolve slow viewership than to immediately pull the show. Please bring Tony’s show back and this time promote, promote, promote on television, radio, newsprint and websites.
Thanks.
It baffles me that people just want to watch garbage like Jersey Shore, Housewives, or more reality junk!! When in fact Breakthrough was actually a real breakthrough from the poison that we see on Television on a daily basis!! It makes no sense not to give Breakthrough a chance, but just goes to show ignorance is bliss!!!! NBC you owe it to the viewers of breakthrough to air the rest of the episodes on line!!!
I was in shock that it was cancelled! I love the show and I was hoping to continue to watch it. I’m hoping they will let people see the rest of the vids. I know I would like to see em, no point in burning em! It’s sad, I love Tony he has done an excellent job!
Tony Robbins is about money. His personal power focuses on the ego and attracting abundance. In essence…it helps some people change their ego-centric lives but not grow spiritually. This show as well as his appeal is not reaching people where it counts.
The lack of advertising n right during summer vacation too. thats why all the big shows wait till the fall. I’m very dishearten nbc took the show off.
The first two shows were great. Finally a show that helps and entertains rather than just another mindless show. Maybe NBC should take Toni’s advice and breathrough with some effective advertising and wait until the new fall season begins. I’m really deciding to pull the plug on cable and stick to the internet especially when they make dumb decisions like this!
3.12 Million people is weak, but like what the other people said, it’s summertime and you shouldn’t expect ratings to be high. I think they should have at least let it run through it’s complete first season. If the ratings were still this low at the end of the season, I would have canceled the show. But two episodes just isn’t enough to give you a real sense of the show; they never really gave it a chance.
i was enthusiastic about it, but upon watching 2nd episode (missed the 1st one) I was very disappointed about that near bankrupt couple…how many 1000s of couples are in a similar situation as that couple facing bankruptsy, house loss, etc?…yet they didn’t get the free job links or job offers that these two got …let alone coaching from tony robbins…hardly a a reality showing offering true inspiration….didn’t think it would last and I’m not surpised.
I happened upon this show, and ended up watching it, to the end. I looked for it to come on again, and watched it.
I agree it wasn’t hyped enough. I liked what I saw. I’m sorry NBC decided to cancel the show. I thought it was inspirational, and was showing people, to be positive, and with a positive attitude, all thing are attainable.
I think the low ratings were due to.. not enough advertisement.. and not enough of the ‘right’ kind of advertisement. I am a Tony Robbins fan and when I heard about the show, I thought it would be more of one of his infomercials not actually a reality show. I imagine many others thought the same thing. If it had been advertised more )and not as much focused on Tony Robbins) but on the people he helped, I bet the the reception would have been better. I say give it another try.. with a ton of advertisment.
This show is great! I only saw one commercial before it debuted, and my friend who is a TR fanatic (to say the least) didn’t even see a single commercial for it. And, she does watch quite a bit of tv. I think it would have been able to solicit more viewers if marketed a bit more. I have countless posts on my facebook news feed on how people wanted to watch the show, but couldn’t because of prior engagements. NBC has to also take into account that it is summer time. Sun is out longer, people are on vacation,… Read more »
Not enough advertisement. alot of people did not know about the show.
