As we noted here, several TV shows that ended or were cancelled during the 2009-10 season have been nominated for Emmy awards. It’s kind of strange to think that they’re good enough to be nominated but, for whatever reason, they won’t be back next season.
Here are a few reactions from some of the talent…
Gregory Itzen, 24: “I originally took it personally that people would yell at me on the street for the role. But then I realized it was more of an honor if anything.”
Matthew Fox, Lost: “Me personally I didn’t even know the nominations were happening today. It wasn’t until I was awakened today by a barrage of phone calls and text messages when it suddenly clicked it must be some kind of awards day.”
Damon Lindelof, Lost: “It sounds so cliche that it’s great to be nominated but that’s what we’re basking in now. We don’t take this for granted. And the fact that the love was spread to Michael Giacchino, Jack Bender, the sound mixers and art direction is great. It’ll be cool to put on the monkey suits again and get together one last time.”
Carlton Cuse, Lost: “My strategy is to sleep through these type of things. I checked my phone and saw there were a lot of emails. Bad news avoids you like the plague… For Matthew (Fox) , he’s labored almost unfairly on a show that’s more ensemble-oriented than the guys he’s competing against. Fortunately, the finale was Matthew-centric and he was finally given a chance to be front and center in such a way that allows voters to take notice. He was so critical to our show.”
Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien: “Congrats to my staff on 4 Emmy nominations. This bodes well for the future of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.”
Jay Leno’s Tonight Show and Jay Leno Show weren’t nominated for any awards. On last night’s show he said, ” The Emmy nominations were announced today. The good news — Tonight Show got 4 nominations. The bad news — I didn’t get one of them.” He continued, “And David Letterman didn’t get nominated either. Oh man. I guess Dave and I will be watching the Emmys at Oprah’s house this year,” referring to their Super Bowl commercial this year.
