What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the NBC television network, The Carmichael Show stars Jerrod Carmichael, Amber Stevens West, David Alan Grier, Lil Rel Howery, and Loretta Devine. This topical comedy series is loosely inspired by star and co-creator Jerrod Carmichael’s life. His opinionated North Carolina family consists of Jerrod (Carmichael); his old-school dad, Joe (Grier); devout mom, Cynthia (Devine); progressive girlfriend, Maxine (Stevens West); and brother Bobby (Howery). Through these characters, the show explores current societal themes, including race, police protests, guns, and religion.

Telly’s Take
To be honest up front, I’m not sure why The Carmichael Show was renewed for a third season. Its first season ratings were low, yet still respectable, for a summer series. So then, NBC moved it to the mid-season for the second installment, but instead of picking up viewers, its ratings dropped precipitously. The Peacock Network later renewed it for a third season and slated it for summer, once again. The numbers are down once again. I suspect the show will be renewed once again but it could easily be cancelled. I’ll keep an eye on the ratings and will update this page as need be. What do you think?Do you think that The Carmichael Show TV series should have been renewed for a fourth season? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled this TV show?
I rarely watch tv because there’s so much foolish shows that are on these days and it’s not worth watching. My husband happen to stumble across the Carmichael’s Show and this show is the only show I watch literally. It’s funny while talking about real life issues. Please don’t cancel I love this show until I just continue to watch repeats.
I enjoy the show, it’s smart, and poignant. It tackles issues in a timely and fun way. Why cancel?
I love this show!! At first I thought it was a little preaching. Then I starting laughing so hard at some of the story lines and they way these actors deliver their lines. Please keep this show on !!!!
I’m so tired of the networks cancel agenda. You leave us with nothing to watch but bs. If I wanted to watch a game show I would stay home during the day. We need something to lighten up our nights.
My family loves this show!! My Mom loves this show & we all watch it every Wednesday night! The Carmichael Mom is so much like my Mom even though my mom is 85 & white. My Mom is also a very Christian lady, was raised in North Carolina, and attends church every Sunday, playing the piano for the late service and co-teaching a Sunday School class. She sees herself in the Carmichael Mom. We are just an average white family & we see ourselves in this show. The Carmichael Show family has all those characters that most families have…it reaches… Read more »
The show was CANCELLED! Ratings that keep declining can cause that to happen. However, NBC did renew Shades of Blue, and the ratings for that were disgusting.
Our entire family and our closest friends LOVE The Carmichael Show! We look forward to the great topics each week and so many laughs! This is one of the rare shows that we can watch episodes over and over! Please don’t cancel this show, it is the type of shows we need more of. The way each and every cast member delivers their lines is just amazing! Please renew this show. Thank you.
I would be very disappointed if the show was cancelled. I love the relevancy of the show. Both past, present and future topics are all being addressed. I think people are tense that their private thoughts and discussions are being brought to the forefront. This is purposeful so that these aforementioned discussions are a little more educated and not so narrow minded. There’s so much crap on tv and finally something that’s not only hilarious but informative, relative, relatable and necessary.
I just got hip to the show and binged watched all 3 seasons. Really loved it. I especially enjoy all the topics that the show deals with and how it relates to the black experience. Its done well and all the actors characters i have either sren or experienced one or more times in my life. Please keep it going, this shpw has a lot left to say, and is needed in today’s world.
NBC renewed Shades of Blue with disgustingly low ratings. They might renew this. It’s only 3 weeks in. Let’s see what happens in a few weeks.
