Last season, CBS tried to establish new shows but almost all of them were cancelled due to low ratings. No new dramas survived and only two sitcoms did. Which shows will be cancelled or renewed this time? We’ll have wait and see.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Battle Creek, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Briefcase, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, Extant, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Scorpion, Stalker, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Blue Bloods & Hawaii Five-0 are the only two tv programs worth watching Friday evenings…Please don’t cancel them! My family & I really enjoy them, along with Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Scorpion, NCIS (none if the spin offs though please), and Criminal Minds.
CBS IF YOU CANCEL BLUE BLOODS, HAWAII 5-0, CSI LAS VEGAS, MADAM SECRETARY, GOOD WIFE, CRIMINAL MINDS, NCIS LOS ANGELES, NCIS, NCIS NEW ORLEANS, THE MENTALIST, STALKER, PERSON OF INTEREST AND ELEMENTRY. WE WILL QUIT WATCHING CBS. I’M STILL MAD ABOUT THE OTHER CSI’S, MEDIUM, GHOST WHISPERER, AND MORE.
PLEASE DON’T GET RID OF HAWAII 5 O this show brings my family together we love watching it! We adore all the actors and if you get rid of it, it will hurt me so much because this show is my favorite and my family’s favorite! Danny makes me laugh and Magaret and the shrimp dude that’s my 15 year old sisters favorite character anyways please don’t get rid of this show please!!!
This is the final season of two and a half men but it’s not written above that it’s ending
Fixed. Thanks for noticing!
Interesting on THE GOOD WIFE, with the yr-to-yr ratings being down, but the “millions of viewers” yr-to-yr being UP. What that means is that the 18-49 population is higher than last year and a smaller PERCENTAGE of the total 18-49 population is watching THE GOOD WIFE. What is that due to, CBS? Did the population increase 18 years ago, or is it immigration in that age group, or ???
What a disappointment Sunday night is now that Amazing Race has moved to Friday. And Amazing Race’s drop in ratings is most likely due to that horrible time shift.
Person of Interest is one of my favorite shows of all time.
So now viewers, you don’t matter any more once you turn 50. Isn’t that sad.
I just really hope nothing happens to Hawaii Five 0!!! It’s the only CBS show I watch besides Big Bang Theory

My bag I meant to say CBS not what I said Scandal is on ABC for the people who keeps saying it’s on CBS like I did Happy Holidays.
Only show I watch on CBS is Blue Bloods, as long as they remain on I’m fine. I watch the BB marathons too on ION TV.
i watch a few on cbs. they cancel those and they will no longer have this viewer. cbs those shows are…… hawaii 5-0, blue blood, csi las vegas, good wife, scandal, all ncis’s, criminal minds, person of interest, and i know mentalist is going and i’m mad about that. madam sec., stalker is ok. cbs get ur stuff together stop the cancellations.
COMEON REALITY SHOW GIVE THEM THE AX. CBS IS MAKING SOME DANGEROUS CANCELLATIONS OF GOOD SHOWS. MENTALIST IS A GOOD SHOW. WHEN IT MOVED TO FBI THE MENTALIST CAST WAS NOT TRANSFERRED. BIG MISTAKE. PRETTY SOON THERE WON’T BE ANY GOOD SHOWS REMAINING. I WAS MAD WHEN CBS STARTED KILLING OFF CSI SHOWS. GHOST WHISPERER AND MEDIUM WAS GOOD SHOWS. NOW NCIS’S ALL ARE GOOD SHOWS AND I HOPE SOMEONE WITH SOME SENSE KEEPS THEM. WHOEVER CALLS A SHOW BEING CANCELLED IS A BIG LOSER THERE AT CBS.
I think “Madam Secretary” has real merit. It’s smart, it depicts a really interesting, extremely tough female character, who has none of the nuttiness of other recent female characters (like the heroine on “Black Box”). I for one, hope the network gives it a chance! Maybe a few extra people will learn about our political system and actually VOTE next election!
If I had a performance review that had as many red numbers as the above charts reflect, I would not have a job and would be fired, summarily, without recourse.
Why is failure acceptable for CBS, Les Moonves and Nina Tassler?
The name of the network should be changed to EPIC FAILURE!
because most of those shows are in syndication worldwide and making CBS GOBS and GOBS of money. many of those shows are airing in the US just to air and repeat as quickly as possible so they can then be added to the synd deal where the big buck are at.
No wonder creatonism is gaining traction in the US, when someone thought The McCarthy’s, the Millers, Bad Teacher, and Selfie deserved pilots!
I’d like to put the blame on reality TV (Yes I’m looking at YOU Mr Cowell!), but TV reflects society.
When a society allows Honey Boo Boo to get a TV show, you KNOW it is in trouble!
Big Bang season 8 is getting better, but unforgivably poor first few shows! All forgiven (almost) for the inspired Billy Bob Thornton character!
Scorpion!!!!! Brilliant show….no pun intended!
Yes BRILLANT!!! Needs better outside the box advertising to reach a larger audience! Finally a smart action show that makes viewers think!
and CBS ratings continue to fall
I think its the decline of intelligence in the US causing people to forego freshman level complexity for the Kardashians, Duck Dynasty, Honey Boo Boo and other “reality” shows. Give it another 5 or 6 years and we’ll all be mindless smart phone toting retards…
Yes, I agree for the most part. but the overall quality of the other shows on TV is declining as well.
I mean come on SELFIE? really? someone actually thought that would be a hit?oh wait. mindless smart phone toting retards….:)
You have said what I have been saying for years. Add to that what viewers in say 50 years will be saying. Hopefully they will have learned from their mistakes and TV will be better and they will look back and laugh and say whatever were they thinking back then. ?????
