Last season, CBS tried to establish new shows but almost all of them were cancelled due to low ratings. No new dramas survived and only two sitcoms did. Which shows will be cancelled or renewed this time? We’ll have wait and see.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Battle Creek, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Briefcase, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, Extant, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Scorpion, Stalker, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
OH AND BEFORE SOMEONE GRIPES ABOUT CAPS. MY KEYBOARD HAS SEEN FIT TO LOCK ON CAPS.
I keep waiting for the Stalker series to start up again. Has it been cancelled?
It resumes 1/14/15.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE MESSED UP THE WHOLE CBS LINE UPS WHAT ELSE YOU GOT IN STORE FOR US? NOT WATCHING ANY NEW SHOWS. I WANT OLD SHOWS BACK. TAKING OFF MENTALIST WAS A VERY BAD MISTAKE ON YOUR PART. ALL THE REALITY SHOWS CAN FALL OFF THE MAP AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED. ALL NCIS SHOWS ARE GREAT. CBS WAS TOP OF LINE NOW THEY HAVE FELL ON THEIR EGG RIDDLED FACE. ONLY 1 CSI LEFT AND I LOVE THAT SHOW AND I LOVED ALL OF THEM AND HATE YOU TOOK THEM OFF. CRIMINAL MINDS IS GREAT. I LIKE… Read more »
I haven’t enjoyed a good thriller/drama series that would get me creeped and at the edge of my seat until Stalker. I watch on demand the following night due to it’s timeslot. Though, some of the characters’ scripts could be tweek’d, it’s a good show and I’d continue to watch. Unfortunately, Elementary, Blacklist and Person of Interest are slowly losing my interest for its lengthy storyline between the characters such as “Samaritan” in POI or the group dynamics in Elementary and Blacklist, which seem to drag on. I’d also prefer to see series episodes (1-22 for instance) in its entirety,… Read more »
I wish NCIS LA was back on its Tuesday time slot instead of Monday at 10 pm. My friends and I can’t stand NCIS NO . It benefits in the ratings because it comes after NCIS. After watching two shows we stopped watching. Now Castle and NCIS LA are on at the same time, I like both.
Hawaii Five O is the best show on TV and the only one me and my many friends watch and will watch!!!!
Seems that CBS’ red ink just keeps getting worse as the season goes on.
Please do not cancel POI. I love it. I do find Samaritan disturbing and hope it is destroyed. But I do not want the series canceled. Fix it, don’t get rid of it. I love the actors and the premise of the series.
Love Stalker. Keep up good work!
I loved the Millers until this season, I really did not like the new character Sean. It has hardly been on this season. I watch almost all of the CBS lineup, except The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-O & The Mentalist. I agree with Leonard, please go back to the original premise of Person of Interest. Samaritan has gotten very old! I LOVE Stalker & Madam Secretary. I can’t wait until the new CSI starts in the new year. I love all of the NCIS’s, love Criminal Minds, Blue Blood, Big Bang, Mom etc. I know, hard to believe but I… Read more »

What happened to the storyline for Person of Interest?? I am seeing it go so far out there that I am not going to watch it anymore! Loved it in the beginning with them helping people and would love for them to get back to that premise! Screw this Samaritan crap! Get back to the original storyline please! Love the interaction with all the characters, as far as Reese, Finch, the city cop, and the two girls! I don’t like where you people went … I want it back the way it was!
Have greatly enjoyed Person of Interest since it first aired. It’s had ups and downs but keeps us attentive and on the edge! The potential is definitely there to be a long time favorite. And certainly can’t do without Criminal Minds, and hope to see JLH don a new spotlight. For new shows, Madam Secretary is not bad but still getting my feet wet.
Love stalker watch it every Wednesday
Stalker is my favorite TV show. I absolutely love it. I can’t stay up late on Wed., but am up early to watch it “on demand” early Thursday morning. Also love to watch Blue Bloods.
That’s usually what I do, Babs.
Blue Bloods is one of the best shows on television.
