CBS is still the most-watched network but almost all of their established shows are down year-to-year. Plus, none of their new shows can really be considered hits. Which will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned!
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Bad Teacher, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Crazy Ones, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Elementary, Extant, Friends with Better Lives, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Hostages, How I Met Your Mother, Intelligence, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Reckless, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, Unforgettable, and We Are Men.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
NCIS (My favorite, except for the past season, with Bishop. Please get a good actress, like Ziva or Kate, love everyone else. Cannot watch regularly it is so boring now.
NO SPARK
Looks like the best ratings CBS will muster are predicated on NFL Thursday Night Football viewership. Football is one way to guarantee a “sure thing,” but there is not much creativity involved. CBS needs to get to work and stop resting on its laurels. Jethro Gibbs is getting old and the world looks at lot different than CBS portrays it. At least football has a diverse cast of players, but if it was up to CBS, it might not.
I used to watch Person of Interest, on CBS. I stopped watching because the storylines became too convoluted, and I found the newest cast members uninviting. The obvious lack of diversity on the show is troubling also. It seems the drama films in a totally Caucasian populated place called New York City. All the Black people that acted on the show got killed or disappeared, and have been replaced by Caucasians, or Persians who look like Caucasians. Amazing…..but that’s CBS for you, in 2014 even.
Our favorite show is Person of Interest. I hope the ratings improve in the coming year. Why did they cancel Intelligence when they kept other shows that had less viewers?? It was a great show. I hope they change their minds and bring it back.
You have taken a good show of the air it’s so nice to watch a show without any swearing in it, and that very rare.but in INTELLIGENCE you can actually follow the storyline, and yes it’s a family show, yes some of the shows are rubbish, but your FOOLS to drop this one….
CBS appears to be creatively challenged, and living in the past, as it continues to put forth programming which sadly fails to recognize the the actual look of society. Dramas filmed in New York City certainly do not reflect the demographics of the area. The public is simply not as gullible, forgiving or ignorant as it was 50 years ago and ratings reflect the rebellion against acceptance and delight with anything CBS puts forth. Today, viewers make their feelings and qualms known, but to what end? I have sent more than 25 communications to CBS and not one has ever… Read more »
funny you say that considering CBS has some or most of the highest rated shows on TV. and all those cool hip creative shows you talk about are all cancelled after one season. so I would say CBS knows what they are doing.
CBS may have the highest rating programs, but they certainly dropped the ball when they cancelled one of the best shows on TV in The Crazy Ones. Certainly deserved a second season, and it’s a shame that a bunch of empty suits, and empty heads gave this show the boot. I used to watch a lot of CBS programming, but now I could care less, and now I won’t even give their shows a second look.
Two shows everyone talks about on this forum are the Crazy Ones and Intelligence. I saw the premieres of both shows and thought within the first 15 of each that they would be canceled. So If I worked for CBS I would have canceled crazy ones as well.
Very disappointed to see that intelligence was cancelled. Figures, a smart entertaining show that I could watch with my daughter now gone. We use to plan for it and have something to look forward to after a long day of work and school. So sick of these filthy talking ingnorant shows with the girls boobs hanging out. No wonder all of the shows ratings are down overall. CBS disappoints once again.
Please, please, please leave Intelligence! There are way too many reality shows and it is just as entertaining as Hawaii five-0 and Elementary! I loved it!!
Please keep Intelligence. It’s an original show as good as elementary! Good cast. Different and a good family show!
Why do the shows I like get canceled? Flash forward. Terra nova. Etc. Anything is better than Csi. I used to watch them but they are formulaic and predictable. Boo!
Intelligence was a great series. Something my son and I watched together. At least it’s a little original and not a rehash of CSI in another city!
Please keep it going CBS or let someone else carry it on.
“Person of Interest” is 1 of the best shows in years !!!
“NCIS” is also 1 of my best shows to watch!
I wish I could get the chance to meet John – that would be my biggest wish !
What on earth happened to Person of Interest? I had no idea its ratings slipped so badly.
Those dismal numbers cannot bode well for the upcoming season. Hope the writers can heal whatever ails this once popular and previously strong drama.
Longmire on A&E {be4st show on TV}. The Good wife, Mike and Molly. CBS had a very good show with Vegas, but they screwed that up and replaced it with lesser show’s.
Intelligence is a very good show. The actors are really good. I hope CBS will give it another year
why did they cancel intelligence? its a really great new show to watch, its not only different from the all the other shows but its really really gooddddd!!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!
I completely agree! I really enjoyed Intelligence and found it very interesting. For once it was a different idea and not a spin off.
