Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
It is not fair to do that to Cedar Cove fans. We should have at least be given a series finale show to tie up the loose ends of our beloved characters. Maybe another channel will pick it up.
I agree completely. Can not start a series with no finale.L
I hope so!!!
This is some B.S. who doesn’t give a ending to a story.
I agree…angers me that we don’t have closure on this series…PLEASE allow season 4,5 to satisfy those of us who have invested HOURS of our time to watch and enjoy the first 3…PLEASE!!!
I agree!! Just heartbreaking
I agree with you all the way!
I couldn’t agree more…this is by far the bet serial HMC has ever made….realistic and deals with real emotions not just cheesy happy endings. Come on Hallmark put this show back on the air…if not HMC then how about Netflix pick it up
I’m with you, it really should return.
I really loved Cedar Cove. The clean story lines the picturesque scenery and the wonderful actors made it a pleasure and fun show. The ending wasn’t good hopefully it leaves it open for season 4 to return. Please listen to your viewers because we matter. In this day and time there is so much bad in my he world Cedar Cove makes it great to know that when I was watching it my children didn’t have to leave the room they watched and loved it too. Please bring it back.
Incredibly disappointed!
My Mom and I were faithful viewers!!
I am not surprised by the cancellation, although it is very disappointing. I cannot understand why Hallmark choose to cancel Cedar Cover first because it was their very first series, it was based on a book by Debbie Macomber, but most of all because of the ensemble of so many truly amazing and talented cast members I have ever seen on any one series primetime or cable. I think it is shameful of Hallmark to cancel this series. I don’t believe I will watch any of their other television series- if this is how they treat their cast members and… Read more »
Every evening I looked forward to watching another wonderful episode of Cedar Cove. What a huge disappointment it is not seeing the lovely scenery of Cedar Cove again or the fine actors who shared their lives – good and difficult times with all their viewers. There aren’t any other Hallmark productions as excellent as Cedar Cove.
If you care enough about your faithful viewers, you will bring Cedar Cove back.
Loved this show! Netflix should pick it up!
Netflix did pick it up. I just finished watching the last episode, did not realize the show ended at that point? It kind of left me hanging with a lot of un-answered conclusions?
Me too just finished it
Please continue so the individual stories will be brought to some kind of conclusions.
I was really enjoying this series. So sad!
I agree the serie is as good as or better. Than any of other shows.
So sad that Cedar Cove won’t be coming back! I really enjoyed the show. After working in the city it was nice to come home and see this show. Please put it back on the air.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree… Though I didn’t watch through it’s running. I watched the series back to back episodes. Sure wish I had looked into it beforehand. Had I known they cancelled mid story I would have NEVER started it. Now that I see how Hallmark deals with their fans I won’t be a viewer of anything they air.
Tired of watching shows just to get to the last episode with lots of plots left hanging and realize the show has been canceled. No more binge watching on Netflix for me.
Loved Cedar Cove and will miss it dearly. Best show and cast on TV. I will only watch Andie’s movie but done with Hallmark Channel.
My wife and I are very much disappointed. Cedar Cove was a really nice non-violent show that we enjoyed watching over and over again. We paid for complete seasons from Amazon Prime after we canceled our former television cable company service. Those Cedar Cove shows were worth every dollar it cost us. Too bad it was canceled!
Not happy! Not happy at all! Cedar Cove series is one of the main reasons we have the Hallmark channel to begin with. One more season needs to be ran to tie up all the loose ends! Well, we suppose this is where we cancel our subscription to the Hallmark channel. Sad day!
Yes me too. I’m even paying extra to have Hallmark but since they wanna do this I’m downgrading my package n losing it…
I agree with ALL the posters above! NO warning and no real reason that is good enough as to why it was cancelled. NO more Hallmark for me! That was a dirty deal to cancel it with a season finale’ like there was at the end of the 3rd season! This is TOTALLY unacceptable to me and I am NOT HAPPY!
I am so sorry to see Cedar Cove off the air. I just wish they would have produced one more episode so that we could have seen what happened to everyone. A sad day to say the least.
Well another one of my favorite shows canceled I looked forward to watching this show not happy at all.
I will be very sorry to C Cedar Cove be cancelled I have really enjoyed this series I would like to know what happens to all the characters I wish they would use one more year and tie up all the loose ends
So sorry to hear this. Had heard rumors. I really liked this show. It was a scripted TV show that I could watch with my teen children — not too racy, as many shows tend to be these days. Beautiful scenery and loved the interactions of the various characters. Too bad Hallmark felt they had to cancel.
I read every book in the Cedar Cove series, including the Christmas books, and enjoyed watching the show. I am disappointed that the show has been cancelled. However, I will say that the story lines of several of the characters were very changed and lots of things added and deleted from the books, and I was not particularly happy about that. That being said, I definitely would like to see it return and follow the books more closely. The whole series of books was not all about Olivia.
Can you tell mange which book that the series ended on
I’m sorry to report that you won’t find closure to the TV series by reading the books. I checked the books out of the library for that purpose, and have read 10 of the 12. Although most of the characters are the same, the story lines are different. However, if you do read all the books, you will find closure to THOSE storylines, which may enable you to get over your disapptointment of the TV series ending so abruptly.
Unbelievable. I guess people who like to watch nighttime serial programs are just not cared about any more. First Blood & Oil barely got a start and now my favorite summer show gone just like that! No warning, no nothing. Pretty underhanded if you ask me.
My feeling exactly!
Tell us how to GET IT BACK! Has to be some way…PLEASE help us finish this series!
I’m very disappointed that Cedar Cove is being cancelled.. Please Hallmark bring it back, it’s a really good show and there are not to many good summer shows…
I hate when a show is cancelled leaving us hanging. If you’re going to cancel, why can’t you at least give us s good endindlg???
I loved Cedar Cove & will really miss it.
I agree with Darlene. I too miss seeing the ending. No way to treat an audience.
Loved this show and will miss it terribly
all Hallmark is interested in is Christmas and making money…I don’t watch hallmark anymore I buy dvds so those can’t be cancelled. I’m sick of murders and bloodshed they they wonder why there are so many real murders and then again there is Christmas shows shoved down out thoats 6 mounts out of the year.
It is crazy to have to wait a year for When calls the Heart too. I really was looking forward to seeing how Cedar Cove ended. Not happy with Hallmark at all either. Now that they will have a channel to pay for with HMNow.com like Netflix they will make their money elsewhere I guess. I pay so much for my cable – just to have Hallmark – after Christmas I am done.
Over a million viewers and we don’t matter.
To many unanswered questions and unresloved situations. It was just stupefying to stop it at the point of a cliff.
I watched it on Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m sad that there was no true ending.
Please, please please, more Cedar cove.
My husband and I are seriously thinking about dropping Hallmark because of this CEDAR COVE screw up…Why would you EVER cancel this series and in the middle no less…shame full! Please tell us how to get the last 2 series back!!
