Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
So sad can’t believe Hallmark did this
Miss and love Cedar Cove and. all the
cast.
Cedar Cove was an excellent show. Shame on Hallmark for cancelling and keeping viewers hanging. I think the reason for decline in viewers could be the huge length of time between seasons. We don’t want to wait a year in between. Then you start to advertise the new season three months prior to air time. The wait is frustrating. Now we have waited again and find that there is no next season coming. Look out Hallmark, viewers may cancel you!
Very disappointed in Hallmark’s decision.
Cedar Cove was a great show and the ratings were fabulous for it’s time period and time slot.
Am not going to watch Hallmark going forward. Don’t want to get invested in a show and have it be cancelled.
I loved Cedar Cove! It was such a clean and wholesome show compared to what’s out there today. I wish Hallmark would consider a Cedar Cove movie to wrap up the storylines though…….
I cannot believe that Hallmark cancelled Cedar Cove especially without a finale to this series. They just left us right in the middle of nowhere what a terrible thing to do to all of their viewers who really loved Cedar Cove.
Wish there had been a “final” episode to “tie” things up! Loved the series!
I loved the show. Would like to see it continue, maybe on another network.
Well, I’m not surprised. Once again a network has canceled a show I enjoyed watching from the beginning. Networks need to stop relying on “ratings”. How many of us are a part of the rating system? Do we even know anyone who is??? Lifetime took away “Army Wives” and now Hallmark has taken away “Cedar Cove”.
i LOVED THIS SHOW XO MUCH!! WE NEED A FINALE!!!
We NEED the show to totally/FULLY COME BACK for MANY MANY MORE SEASONS!!!!
Please! You should bring back Cedar Cove for the fourth season. I love this show and love all the cast. I’m so sad
Very disappointed!! I so enjoyed the series!
I am extremely disappointed in this news! I do not understand why Hallmark would cancel such a popular show. Hallmark, please reconsider this decision. Your programming is such high quality, Please don’t cancel Cedar Cove or When Calls the Heart! Am still upset you cancelled Signed Sealed & Delivered!
Worst decision Hallmark ever made.
One of the WORST. Another BAD move is what they did to Signed Sealed & Delivered by canceling the Series & moving it to an Occasional movie/special & with what they have done to Cedar Cove it VERY SADLY doesn’t look good for S.S.D.
The ratings weren’t the only reason the show was cancelled. Andie was offered much more money for another project. We loved the series and we miss it very much.
Disappointed in Hallmark Channel. Don’t like the “series” only run for barely three months then string us along on hiatus for 9 months in between 6 months of Christmas programming
Also don’t like they film outside the U.S. This channel used to carry original programming now we get reruns that can be seen on multiple channels at multiple times.
I believe some/most if not all (though I could be wrong but I don’t think so) of it is shot in Canada, and with the lower value of the Canadian currency/money it would cost Hallmark even LESS money to make more episodes & more seasons…
Cannot believe this!!! I loved the show and I want Hallmark to bring it back!
Just pllain sad 🙁
