Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Please reconsider this cancellation. It is so good. Maybe have a movie to resolve all storylines left up in the air. What a bummer.
I absolutely loved this show. I will sorely miss it. It had sophisticated dialogue and relevant issues for white middle class folks. The final episode between Olivia and Colin Ferguson was exceptional and touching, original. Congrats Sue Tenny, Colin and your engaging acting and charm, and Andie.
I suspect Hallmark is going for a younger demographic. It was the only show where the 50-somethings appeared. I will now stop watching Hallmark; too youthful. I am a late 50s professional.
Yes, at least make a movie that resolves the cliff hanger. Colin Ferguson is a rising star. Bring Colin back!
I just watched the “season” finale again on my DVR from the perspective of it being the “series” finale (if I had know it was the last I would have saved all the episodes). As silly as it sounds; not having season 4 feels like a death in the family as things were left so up in the air for five different story lines. When Parenthood was done; it was time but given the short seasons; this show should have lasted until season 5 (with Jack riding off in to the sunset in season 4 – sorry book fans 🙂
very upset !! I am a true follower–at least should have had a two hour ender this year !!
Say it ain’t so, Cedar Cove a wholesome series gets the boot while Kardashin’s run wild !!!!!
As many others mentioned, so saddened by the cancellation. I agree a 2 hour closing movie would wrap up story lines and leave us completed! Please try to work something out for the faithful viewers! I read the whole series of books and know it didn’t end with big questions! This was my ONE show to watch by myself.
I loved Cedar Cove I cannot believe every time I finally find a series I really like it is taken off the air
My mom and I loved to watch this show together! Please don’t cancel! There is very little quality television these days…… This show is a keeper!
We had a girl’s night planned around the show. Ages 15-81 years old. We loved the show with all of its characters and plot lines. Please reconsider.
I loved the show. It was wholesome and showed real situations. Please bring it back!
Really liked this show. I’m very dissapointed it will not return. I hope Hallmark channel will repent!
I wish there would be a closing 2 hour episode in the future
It was nice to tune into a show that was refreshing and not full of yelling, killing, and sleeping around. So very disappointed that this is being cancelled. I hope Hallmark channel reconsiders.
Real true to life shows always seem to be cancelled. Audiences just seem to want drama and crazy rather than real and warm
Great series! Beautiful scenery, engaging cast, real situations…disheartened that it was cancelled. Please reconsider a two hour movie in the future to wrap up storylines and finish with the true spirit of Hallmark productions…❤️.
