Looks like you won’t be seeing any prehistoric humans on Lifetime anytime soon. Deadline reports the network has passed on the pilot for a TV adaptation of Jean M. Auel’s book, The Clan of the Cave Bear.
Published in 1980, the novel is the first in a series about the lives of Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon humans.
Apparently, Lifetime was looking to develop the series into a four-hour mini-series while the pilot’s producers wanted a full cable series order.
The pilot was produced by a team that includes author Auel, Ron Howard, and Brian Grazer.
What do you think? Have you read The Clan of the Cave Bear? Would you like to see a TV series adaptation or a mini-series?
HBO needs to pick up this series.
Ever since the first movie was made, I kept waiting for someone to pick up the others. So far, no luck. Even if no one ever makes another one, I still have all the books (except for the newest but will get it as soon as I can).
was so excited when i had heard clan of the cave bear was to be aired. after seeing 10000 BC, I thought that they could definitely make this into a series, with excellent side effects. Instead I have been disappointed with the news of cancellation. This will be a good challenge for a network to take on, come on just do it!!!!!
Yes, I have read the books and they are my all time favorite series of books, and I have read a lot of book series in my 54 years! I would absolutely LOVE to watch Clan of the Cave Bear whether it is a miniseries movie or full cable series! I was so excited when I heard it was being made for Lifetime and then what a disappointment to hear they passed on the series. Not a very smart move in my opinion, and I pray that another cable network jumps on the opportunity to have a hit series! Looking… Read more »
I do believe lifetime will regret the decision against this “Clan of the Cave Bear”. I imagine they’ll opt for a reality show where contestants will race across Europe, naked while balancing bowling pins on their heads … My opinion, thanks …
Yes yes do this series I reall love this movie i saw it when it first open back in the 80s were most of the best movies ever came from that era clan of the cave bear Alya that name i miss that caracter its like i new her . Ialways finding my self calling out her name alya n just remembering her back in the savage days please come true let it be done so it must be written THANKS
Aww. Was excited for this one. Hope someone else picks it up.
Ditto! Loved all the books. Would love a tv show. Maybe Fox will pick it up. Hope Ron Howard still pushes for show to be released.
I have the whole series of books and am eagerly awaiting the next one. So strange that I never heard that Lifetime was considering remaking it. Whether movie, miniseries, or full series, I’d definitely watch it; especially if they do ALL the books!
I would definitely watch the program. Have been angry with Lifetime since they canceled “Army Wives”. They seem to have a lot of garbage shows on now. Don’t watch anything on Lifetime now. Yes, I have read the book.
Poor foresight, A&E! We want to see this one. Hope someone takes it up soon. With Ron Howard, Ron Grazer, and Jean Auel producing–you know it should happen!
