Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?

Yes my mom and I and others I know love this show and are ticked off that it’s canceled. It’s one of the best medical shows my mom said since ER. Why would you even cancel it? It’s so realistic and deals with so many real life issues.
I would definitely watch a season 4 of Code Black. It was one of the shows I looked forward to every week. I was touched emotionally every week and I related to many of the characters issues. I really hope another network or streaming service picks it up. There are plenty more stories to come out of Angels
Fantastic medical drama/thriller! Unique, well developed, believable characters that draw you into their psyche. Do not cancel.
Would love to see the show return next season.
I love watching Code Black! I’ve been a nurse for 36 years and this show is as real as it gets! Although some storylines are a little sensationalized, the majority of the shows dealt with real life issues! I hope the show does come back on for many more seasons! In medicine, there are Always issues, illnesses, surgeries, diseases that need to be addressed that could lead to thousands of storylines for the show! For me, this show will never get old! I’ve cried, laughed, been mad and happy watching this show! I would be very disappointed if it ended!… Read more »
I am so sad to see yet another quality show be pulled off the air while what I consider garbage TV surviving. Please reconsider. Or I beg another station to step up and give Code Black another chance.
I Love Code Black! Please allow us viewers to continue watching these characters grow! I want Season 4, season 5, etc!!
I would have it set for record as I have all seasons
Love Code Black. My 28 year old son watches too. We were disappointed to hear it was cancelled. I would definitely keep watching!
Yes I would love a 4th season even a 5th and a 6th season. Come on please bring it back. It’s just as good as Grey’s anatomy and Chicago med.
Please bring code black back. I can not understand why it would be canceled. I love all the drama and storylines are so real to life. We need more shows like this, the acting is so real you feel connections. I pray it comes back.
One of my favorites PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL !!!
It is one of the only shows my husband and I watch together. When I saw the last scene I was afraid it was going to be cancelled, and sure enough my fears were confirmed. A great cast with a wonderful exciting concept, terrific writing where no one is safe and anything can happen week to week and still it is cancelled. I am heartbroken that this incredible show is over. But, I still believe that if I clap loud enough Tinkerbell will live, so maybe the powers that be will see they made a mistake and resurrect this Tinkerbell… Read more »
please renew code black
I have enjoyed every single episode of every season on this show. The characters are amazing, the actors are all top notch. The writing is excellent. Why CBS cancelled this show is beyond me. It’s one of the best medical shows in years, reminesint of St Elsewhere, Chicago Hope and ER………and no, I have no idea what network those shows were on and it doesn’t matter because THIS show is great and I hope CBS reconsiders.
I really enjoy the quality of Code Black. Please don’t cancel it. The writing, stars are all great!
