Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
Heck yes I would watch. Code black is one of only a couple of shows that I record so I can watch when it’s quiet in my house. Please bring code black back…

Great cast! Great stories! Great show!
Please keep this show going.
This was one of the best shows on TV! PLEASE find a new home for it!
Code Black is the best, most realistic medical show ever on tv. I’m 82 and have seen them all! The story lines are riveting. The acting is superb. Changes in the cast tightened up things into a primo ensemble. I have watched the shows available at least 3 times. ER was the gold standard for this genre. Code Black is the new standard and I was stunned when it was cancelled. Here’s to a fourth season.
It can’t end there is too much left to see. My biggest questions are, will Ariel become a doctor like Leann? and what will become with the case against Diego’s father? I mean seriously, How will Diego’s involvement effect his relationship and will it help or hurt the case? I’m curious.
I love the show I worked in the ER and then in the OR brings back a lot of memories hopefully the show moves on I look forward to it
We love Code Black and will watch a 4th season wherever it’s aired.
Another poor decision cancelling a quality show. Corporate greed at its finest.
I loved this show. I looked forward to Wednesday nights. I found myself being involved with the characters. I pray that someone will pick you up. All the actors were excellent. Best wishes to you all.
I LOVE CODE BLACK!! It combines the high end technical aspects of an emergency department with the real lives that come in contact with it! I am an old ER nurse and I can’t get enough of the drama and the medicine that Code Black brings to the viewers! PLEASE, PLEASE pick up this wonderful series!
