TV shows The Flash and Gotham have been doing well this season. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for another DC Comics based series — Constantine. NBC has decided to shut down production after 13 episodes but it’s supposedly not cancelled and there could still be a second season.
Constantine revolves around the travels and work of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), an occult detective. He tries to help the innocent though his soul is already damned to hell. Others in the cast are Harold Perrineau, Charles Halford, and Angelica Celaya.
The supernatural series debuted on October 24th to a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.28 million viewers. It was an okay start for a Fridays at 10pm series.
The numbers plunged about 30% in week two but that was Halloween so an above average decline was to be expected. The ratings rebounded a bit in week three and then dropped again in week four, falling to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.47 million. This past Friday’s numbers went back up again but the ratings are still pretty awful.
Deadline reports that production will be shut down after all 13 episodes of the first season have been produced. NBC isn’t ordering additional episodes at this time but it’s supposedly still in contention for a second season — for now, the optimism is based on last Friday’s increase and the DVR numbers.
Unless Constantine’s numbers continue to improve, it’s hard to believe that the network would put the time and money into producing and launching a second season. They’ve kept low-rated Hannibal around for three seasons (the show that will likely replace Constantine on the schedule in 2015) but only because it doesn’t cost them very much as a licensed show.
What do you think? Do you like Constantine? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? How do you watch? Live, DVR, on demand, or ?
Just watched the season 1 finale and am hoping that NBC brings it back for season 2.
I enjoy the show. We DVR it as it was originally on late and we both get up early. I wish networks would listen to the viewers and find a better time for these shows and stick to it.
Love this show put it on a Tuesday or Thursday slot and more people will watch it no shows that are good are on everyday except Friday and Saturday because people want to do other things don’t cancel it or I will stop watching this network also
All i have 2 say is if they don’t keep Constantine….I WILL NEVER WATCH ANOTHER SHOW FROM THAT NETWORK AGAIN…and alot of other people feel the exact same way! BRING IT BACK! NUFF SAID!
Constantine MUST be saved!!! I think it is just as good as GRIMM. DON’T let it get cancelled after just 13 episodes!!!
I wish NBC would listen!! It’s a great show, perhaps just needs more exposure!! I think this is more involved and better story line than Grimm!! NBC listen….. Exposure, exposure, exposure and you’ll have ur ratings!
Not a good time slot for this show. First it was Friday at 10pm and now it is at 8pm. Friday is date/hang out with friends night for the demographic (18-49) to which it is marketed (or to whom the ratings matter to the network). Move to another night (Tuesday?) and ratings should improve. This is a pretty good show but could do with more intense storylines, imo.
Keep!!!it!!!its amazing!!
Great show awsome and cool keep it!!!!
It’s a great show a must keep
Keep it going .. I love the show
I LOVE CONSTATINE – pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease don’t cancel. My whole family and all my friends watch.
With these threats in the series being canceled is logical that the audience would fall. Many people gave up watching the serie after read such news. How they expect to have success with a series is already threaten viewers with the premature end of it?
Ps. Sorry for my bad English.
You definitely hit the nail on the head, Leandro (and you’re English is just fine!) I can’t decide if I’m sad or mad (or both) knowing that this Friday is the “Season Finale.” Maybe we should be flooding NBC with our emails, as I doubt they’re reading these posts!!
Keep Constantine!!!!
It is a great show I believe NBC is cancelling way to early also are you people marketing it that well?
The actors on Constantine aren’t too bad, but the show would be better if you find some decent writers. If you’re going to keep the same crap story lines, you would be wise to go ahead and cancel the series.
