TV shows The Flash and Gotham have been doing well this season. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for another DC Comics based series — Constantine. NBC has decided to shut down production after 13 episodes but it’s supposedly not cancelled and there could still be a second season.
Constantine revolves around the travels and work of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), an occult detective. He tries to help the innocent though his soul is already damned to hell. Others in the cast are Harold Perrineau, Charles Halford, and Angelica Celaya.
The supernatural series debuted on October 24th to a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.28 million viewers. It was an okay start for a Fridays at 10pm series.
The numbers plunged about 30% in week two but that was Halloween so an above average decline was to be expected. The ratings rebounded a bit in week three and then dropped again in week four, falling to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.47 million. This past Friday’s numbers went back up again but the ratings are still pretty awful.
Deadline reports that production will be shut down after all 13 episodes of the first season have been produced. NBC isn’t ordering additional episodes at this time but it’s supposedly still in contention for a second season — for now, the optimism is based on last Friday’s increase and the DVR numbers.
Unless Constantine’s numbers continue to improve, it’s hard to believe that the network would put the time and money into producing and launching a second season. They’ve kept low-rated Hannibal around for three seasons (the show that will likely replace Constantine on the schedule in 2015) but only because it doesn’t cost them very much as a licensed show.
What do you think? Do you like Constantine? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? How do you watch? Live, DVR, on demand, or ?
I loved it. Keep it on!
Love this show!! Please keep it comin 🙂
I can’t believe that will all the crappy, reality based shows that are on the air every where today, that NBC would even consider the notion of cancelling a fascinating and exciting show like this. Constantine and Grimm make a perfect friday! Get with it NBC!
KEEP IT!!! I loved it. It is a great show.
im from the Philippines and a great fan of Constantine. me and my family loved the show and we’re lookibg forward in watching another season!
I say keep the Constantine, its entertaining, creative, full of the supernatural and the actors are amazing. I LOVE TJIS SHOW AND THE CHARACTERS in them. I think so much more can be explored.

Keep the show and group it together with Grimm. I love both of these superrnatural dramas and i hated the movie about Constantine however, I love, love, LOVE the NBC series on Constantine. NBC would be nuts to get rid of Constantine too soon. Give people time to check it out. With “On Demand”, Huluplus, Netflix, Amazon video, etc… people don’t watch “live tv” so I don’t get how they tally viewership accurately. At least, how do they tally it accurately? I am tired of starting shows then being left hanging. Sometimes I wait to see if there is even… Read more »
keep the show…..it is a breath of fresh air
Hope for seasion 2 on air…
I love the show Constantine and I am praying it comes back for Season 2. I find the story line very different from what is on tv at this time.
Would like to see season 2
Loved the show very differant then the others. Hopefully it will return. Also, given the constant reruns or no shows it has become difficult to follow a show, thank goodness for hulu. Bring the show back, please!
Great show. Different from all those boring reality ones. Keeps your interest. Love the characters.
I can’t believe this series is at risk of cancellation! They finally get the character and the storyline right and they talk of cancelling?!? This will be as big a blunder as Firefly and Deadwood. The movie with Keanu was so far off the mark that I had little hope the show would stand up to the epic scale of the graphic novel that was so astounding it launched a dozen spin offs. The Hollywood exec who’s making this bone headed choice needs to get their head out of the numbers and look at the fan base. I’m one of… Read more »
