TV shows The Flash and Gotham have been doing well this season. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for another DC Comics based series — Constantine. NBC has decided to shut down production after 13 episodes but it’s supposedly not cancelled and there could still be a second season.
Constantine revolves around the travels and work of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), an occult detective. He tries to help the innocent though his soul is already damned to hell. Others in the cast are Harold Perrineau, Charles Halford, and Angelica Celaya.
The supernatural series debuted on October 24th to a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.28 million viewers. It was an okay start for a Fridays at 10pm series.
The numbers plunged about 30% in week two but that was Halloween so an above average decline was to be expected. The ratings rebounded a bit in week three and then dropped again in week four, falling to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.47 million. This past Friday’s numbers went back up again but the ratings are still pretty awful.
Deadline reports that production will be shut down after all 13 episodes of the first season have been produced. NBC isn’t ordering additional episodes at this time but it’s supposedly still in contention for a second season — for now, the optimism is based on last Friday’s increase and the DVR numbers.
Unless Constantine’s numbers continue to improve, it’s hard to believe that the network would put the time and money into producing and launching a second season. They’ve kept low-rated Hannibal around for three seasons (the show that will likely replace Constantine on the schedule in 2015) but only because it doesn’t cost them very much as a licensed show.
What do you think? Do you like Constantine? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? How do you watch? Live, DVR, on demand, or ?
I have to chime in with my two cents. I sat down one night to watch TV with my son. He is 9 years old. I should mention that he suffers from a seizure disorder. I only bring that up because he doesn’t get interested in a lot of television programs because he has issues with his attention span as well. He is a big fan of the superhero genre and that is one thing that always seems to capture his attention. In the past I have asked him if he wanted to watch TV with daddy and he always… Read more »
I like Constantine. NBC has stupid people with no taste running it.
I don’t think insulting the folks at NBC will help our cause. Just saying. Ever hear the old saying “You catch more flies with honey that you do vinegar”. Case in point here.
NBC people… we don’t all think you are stupid people. I personally think you just needed to be informed on how many people love this show. Please prove me right! 🙂
Please don’t cancel it! I love this show one of my favorites 😀
This show is amazing and in my opinion the best show NBC has going for them.
It is a show that is beyond typical drama shows and predictable comedy sitcoms there is no excuse why Constantine should not to be kept for a Second Season and beyond.
Notice the strong and unbending #Constantine renewal campaign online by fellow Hellblazers and fans of good entertainment – and their passion hasn’t changed from day one of the pilot.
This show reminds me of the old days when NBC was top dog and had shows like this to keep them there.
Love the show, cast and crew
i agree whole heartaly with Kris . Both shows are great and entertaining, My favorite is Grimm look forward to more and more episodes.
I LOVE this show!! Excellent concept, fun to watch and always keeps you guessing and coming back for more. Had no idea it was a comic book, but I won’t hold that against the show. It’s a smart, fast-paced show that for once doesn’t “dumb everything down”. DO NOT CANCEL. Try more shows, less stupid reality garbage. That’s a winning idea! We watch to escape reality, so stop canceling the shows that take us out of it.
I think Constantine is very good show and the network need’s to keep it on. Like Jennifer said in one of her comment’s you guys cancel all the good program’s.
I personally love this show, I never miss the episodes and I look forward to them, I’ve never read the comics but after watching this series i fully intend to, I also watch grimm! gotta love supernatural series, it’s fun and exciting! Zed and Constantine are my favorites!
I like this show. I think having all the supernatural shows lined up in one night would be the best. I don’t get why they only got 13 episodes and had good ratings. So why are they suspended? Makes no sense. Bring it back!
Well, I would love to think that all these comments are getting to NBC, and form what I read several weeks ago they are. NBC repeatedly keeps saying that they don’t want to cancel the series if possible, because they do like it, no matter what they said about jumping on the superhero bandwagon. And they have also said tat they do read and see the comments and letters about not canceling the show, which is why they haven’t canceled it yet. Their Official word on the matter is that their decisions as to what will happen to Constantine will… Read more »
We always watched the show. Think the acting is very good.
Would like it to stay on!!!!!!!!!
I think every time they make a good show it gets cancelled. Or it goes off the air I think if we take a stand they won’t do it
Keep the show on!!!
Constantine is a show I don’t miss when the show is on. Combined with Grimm we get a 1-2 punch for our Friday night entertainment. Good times.
i also love the show and hate the thought of them cancelling it
