It’s been a long time coming, but ABC has officially cancelled Conviction after one season.
The legal drama follows attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, who gets “blackmailed” into examining possible wrongful convictions. The cast also includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
Conviction has widely been considered cancelled since it ended its first season earlier this year. First, ABC decided not to order additional episodes of the freshman drama. Then, season one earned poor ratings, averaging a 0.65 in the 18-49 demo and only 3.57 million viewers. Unfortunately, it looks like this legal drama just failed to catch on.
This is Atwell’s second ABC series to be cancelled. Marvel’s Agent Carter lasted for two seasons and 18 episodes.
What do you think? Did you see Conviction? Do you think ABC should’ve given the show another more time?
I agree that ABC is stuck on stupid. That show was so different from all the other shows. We need shows that show a strong woman role model. I love crime dramas but they are all the same. This one dealt with trying to fix a wrong. The cast was right on. ABC bring it back most networks at least give it more than one season.
I agree they didn’t give the show a chance, I loved Hayley in conviction but even more so agent carter, I couldn’t wait for Thursday nights it was the highlight of the week for me she was brilliant in that.
I agree conviction and agent carter were 2 amazing shows
ABC is frequently stuck on stupid. They’re too quick to bail on a good show. I hope Hayley Atwell gets another show. She’s too talented to not be on tv.
Stupid decision on ABC’s part – this was a good show. Don’t understand why they keep mindless crap and cancel something good.
Was just getting into this show- loved it!! Too bad its cancelled
ABC doesn’t know a good hot show when they see it. The r idiots.
I thought it was good tv and can not understand why it was cancelled.
I think it was a Great show!! Sometimes I feel that ABC doesn’t give some of these new shows a chance!! And I just found out that Last Man Standing was cancelled!! I cannot believe it… sorry but I know I’m just one person but I guarantee you me and my friends will NOT be watching ABC!!
I love Hayley with a burning passion. She’s a fav for sure. I also mildly enjoyed Conviction. However, it wasn’t anything special at all. I appreciated it… because of Hayley. It was getting very predictable and bland… In each episode, there was a new client. Their clients were always* wrongfully convicted and were always* released at the end (basically). Then they sprinkled in a tiny bit of every main character’s issues in between solving the cases. To be quite honest, I only watched it because I was DEVASTATED when Agent Carter was cancelled. Peggy Carter is one of my absolute… Read more »
I really liked the show. All of my favorite shows were canceled but one. They only want 30 min. comedy show s and reality shows. Some people want something else. There were several good characters in the show. Bring it back!!!!
I loved the show – disgusted with the cancellations today of 4 out of my 5 favorite shows. I feel stupid even watching new shows. Everytime I get invested – they get cancelled. I think I’ll just keep watching Law and Order reruns and skip anything new. They don’t care for my demographic anyway –
We love the show! Very disappointed!
I love Hayley Atwell, but I thought the writing on Conviction was predictable, clumsy and heavy-handed. There was absolutely no nuance. I watched all 13 eps because of her. She’s the lead in the upcoming Howards End mini-series. Still hoping for an Agent Carter special.
CONVICTION was far too great and intelligent a show to be cancelled after 13 episodes on it’s premiere year. Really upset they cancelled CONVICTION but will give idiotic shows numerous seasons.
It’s unfortunate that such an extremely talented actress could not have had better written shows. She is such a diverse actress, I’ve seen most of everything that she has done.
Hopefully she’ll find a stronger premise & stronger scripts in the future!
