It’s the end of the road for Copper on BBC America. The cable channel has announced that the show has been cancelled after two seasons. The cancellation comes following the show’s modest ratings.
In a statement, BBC America GM Perry Simon said, “The opportunity to work with Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson, Will Rokos, Thomas Kelly and the extraordinary cast and crew on this journey is one that we are extremely proud of.”
He continued, “Their vision to retell the immigrant experience through the melting pot of New York City was an original and fresh idea that melded well with the essence of BBC America’s programming. After 23 episodes, with Lincoln dead and the nation starting to heal, it seems a fitting moment to conclude this American story.”
The de facto series finale will air this Sunday. It’s called “The Place I Called My Home.”
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear there won’t be a third season of Copper? How would you have ended the series?
This series had unlimited potential. It was excellent in all aspects. It was only limited by the vision or lack of by the GM. Might the problem be as others have stated that BBC America needs to be on available to more cable subscribers.
JAMAIS ARRIERE
It’s a crying shame Media corporations like yourselves penny pinch at the expense of fine programming because of the dumbing down of America. Please continue to bring us such fine shows about how to spend our hard earned money and other useless ****. that’s what’s needed , not great historic dramas you can sit and watch together with friends and family.
I think a lot of people are looking for Season 3 of Copper right now and realizing that it is not coming back. Unfortunately, it is too late. They missed out on the early campaigns to call the network and save the show when there was a rumor of cancellation. The sets have been struck, the costumes re purposed, and the actors have moved on to other ventures. Any campaigns going on at this time exist for the sole purpose of holding out on the little hope that a 2 hour movie may or may not get made. If you… Read more »
Maybe if there had been a vampire or zombies in the story line it could have continued.!!!
I also loved the show and am frustrated and disappointed it has ended. I wish I had discovered it sooner and maybe my appreciation could have been meaningful to it’s future.
There needs to be a third season of copper, I loved the show
Not gonna happen.Too many legal battles even getting a 2 hour movie made.per the producers?
Sorry, sometimes I get ahead of myself and damn spell check…..That should have been” known” and not none. 😉
The show is terrific! I know why the ratings weren’t that good. what channel is BBC? I never heard of it or the show. I just happen to stumble on to it by way of Netflix. A show this good has to be on a network people are really familiar with besides the couch potato. I suggest a major network picking it up and finishing the story. What happened to EVA? I’m sure now Kevin isn’t about to be the Ward leader or is he? Maybe the network can try and do a better job of advertising instead of abandoning… Read more »
They tore down the sets and auctioned off the pieces. Everything is gone.
I’ve been waiting for season 3. I am soon disappointed.
Bring Copper back!!!!! This is one series i truly enjoy watching.
I had been looking forward to another season of “Copper” and am sorry to hear that it is not being renewed. It was one of the few police/detective series that took place in another era. It so well portrayed the times of mid-nineteen century urban America that added a very different dimension to the crime story. I learned about the time of Civil War urban America that I could never have learned otherwise and it brought to life immigrant American experience that written word could never have adequately portrayed. The characters were fully fleshed and human, worts and all.
I really enjoyed Copper not a boring story line. I realy hope that they do continue with this series in the future
I am sad to hear that Copper was cancelled. I loved that show!!
Fabulous show! It should be brought back!!! Needed more promotion! I found it by accident in Season 2, and luckily was able to go back and see all. I hate that it is cancelled!
OMG. You should totally check out Nomi’s Facebook page- Bring Back Copper- and help her on her campaign to have a network recognize Copper’s potential and pick it up. She is working directly with Tom Fontana to get it back in production. She has a team of people working for her to get it done. She’s fabulous and hasn’t given up hope.
This information is not accurate. The letter campaign to the networks was suspended in early March, over 8 weeks ago. The only thing I, Nomi , was directly in charge was the letter campaign. My name no longer appears as an officer under the roster of officers. at the Bring Back Copper Facebook page. And we have NEVER worked directly with Tom Fontana.
It is not accurate to say anyone at Bring Back Copper works directly with Tom Fontana . During a letter writing campaign members did write to him with some receiving replies to those letters . Bring Back Copper is a group effort with members working together to hopefully bring back at tv show . No one in this group is compensated nor do they work for anyone . Thank You for allowing me to clarify this information .
Group is basically disbanded now right? Since they have determined show won’t return and movie unlikely.
I am very disappointed that the show has been cancelled. It’s been a great show from episode one.
