It’s been quite awhile since FOX programmed anything but animated shows on Sunday nights — and there certainly hasn’t been anything like Cosmos on the network before. Will their gamble pay off and bring in bigger ratings or, will it be a disappointment? We’ll see.
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey is a follow up to the Carl Sagan series from 1980 and is hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The series follows how humans discovered the laws of nature and the quest for knowledge.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically the following morning, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
6/2 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context here.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the new Cosmos TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I have enjoyed this show for the most part. A couple of episodes were a bit rough, I blame that on poor editing, but many have made for interesting stories. The great thing about this show is that you can learn something, even if you thought you knew it all. The history of science investigation is one thing that is rarely taught. To see how decades and centuries of work come together makes for fun viewing.
I will miss Cosmos when it’s 13 week run is over. But perhaps it will be back in another 10-20 years with new stories.
I think it odd people are talking about it being cancelled by FOX and what not. Its a mini-series event that shows its last 2 episodes on the 1st of June and the 8th. Only two more than it can be bought on Blu-ray. So it cant and wont be cancelled. Its not like Bill Nye the Science Guy or Mr. Rogers or something like that. It only lasts for 13 episodes total. The original Cosmos was the same way. So dont worry. Its just one of those shows that should be shown ever few decades or so and talk… Read more »
I love the show. I think it’s actually better than Sagan’s original version. Not only is the production value better, but NdGT does a slightly better job of making the material accessible. I re-watched some of the original episodes (w/Sagan) and found some of the contents to be dry and hard to understand. NdGT’s series captured my interest almost immediately.
Even dumb’d down with animation, most Americans can’t focus on this show. Viewers need laugh tracks and short sentences to stay tuned. This show was okay…but narrated in a 3rd grade fashion. I understand why it’s dumb’d down, but BBC American has better science programs.
the facts in the sow are pretty good. but they didn’t go deep enough. and a lot of rounding off. the animation was rally bad. it was cheap. it was from the 80’s. they could have spent more money on that. so on that we agree.
Love it! I have to have more!
Love the show!!! Loved the original one too!!
I love COSMOS. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a worthy successor to Sagan’s legacy. Intelligent programming, for once. Sadly, the luddites and bible thumpers will probably have their wish and the show will be cancelled. But until then, I’ll enjoy the show. And I’ll hope to see the series available in a box set eventually. Let’s hope by then there’ll be a few more seasons in the set.
it is not canceled. it was a mini series event. tonight was the last episode. why is it nobody gets this?
again it’s a great show . not as good as carl sagan’s but well worth watching.
This series has the potential to educate so many who can only afford over the air television. I only hope the network has the foresight to continue this series, even if it has to regroup and continue in 2015 or 2016. PBS could benefit in expounding on this too.
Only TV program my kids watch (8 & 12). Heck, only one I watch besides the news. I sure wish they would continue something like this for over the air TV (don’t subscribe to cable)
I think that Cosmos is an amazing show! It makes people interested in science and makes them want to know more. De Grasse Tyson is an engaging narrator whose love of the subject is contagious. I was disappointed that there are no plans to continue the show beyond this season! There is so much more to learn!
This story is “fantasy” not science. Notice how many times the words “millions of years” is drummed into the audiences ears throughout the program. When you are unable to explain something you NEED millions of years to support your claim. For instance fossils. It does not take “millions of years” for fossils to form. There are fossils of acorns that were in a galvanized bucket for one year under a downspout from a house. There are fossils of leather boots and even one with a mans foot still in it. There are fossils of whole pickles still in the jar.… Read more »
Sir, let me first say that I do not wish to offend you but this line of thinking is detrimental to the progress of society and the perpetuation of our species. I have read the anti science comments on here for a while and thus far ignored them all. However, the audacity of this comment leaves me feeling compelled to know whether you’re serious. If so, please halt further use of modern technology. Someone who disrespects the scientific method and feels compelled to refute logic does not deserve the benefits and comfort they provide us.
I think you would do better preaching to a different choir. The people you will run into here are more into reading books instead of burning them.
Hands down the most frightening thing I’ve read today. You are way off and you’re thinking is indeed a detriment to society at large.
The days of superstition and ignorance are reaching an end. That is why people like Martin feel the need to denigrate thinking and rationality. It is sad that so many still cling to the empty comfort of religion in a world where science has brought us so many wonders. Non-belief is the fastest growing religious category because people are starting to wake up and realize that the God they were taught to believe in was probably an accident of birth and there is no evidence that anyone will save us but ourselves.
THIS IS A WONDERFUL SERIES. I love Dr. DeGrasse Tyson’s narration as well. If it fails, it is just validating that the American television audience WANTS to continuing being ignorant. The producers of this show have to be complimented on, at least, trying to make us smarter! It is just a sign of the times. Idiotaracy will be!
The show is made for the 5 year old attention span. Very few people believe the world is flat and 5000 years old, that just shows the mentality of people who still answer their landline phone without checking caller ID. (gallop polling responders)
Renew, renew, renew….this series for another 10 years!
This show goes into so many varied subjects that in-depth explanation is almost impossible to provide for each in only an hour. The television watching world needs to see this stuff, and hopefully a few people will be motivated to drop their mythical beliefs and begin a life in science. You’re never too old!
Neil DeGrasse Tyson does an excellent job of hosting this show, but I’d like to see some other prominent scientists of our time as well.
again it is a 13 episode EVENT. not to be renewed.
Basically, we are a stupid population who desperately wants to remain that way. This series has no chance, and that is a shame. The masses are too ignorant to care.
I am an athiest but I truly do not see how anyone can watch this show and still believe the world is only 6000 years old. Science is real and not a belief. Believe what they say and not some ancient out dated script written by uneducated cave men.
