The cast of White Collar got a chance to wrap up their series with a final short season but Covert Affairs won’t get that chance. USA Network has cancelled the series after five seasons, leaving fans with plenty of questions and no season six.
On Covert Affairs, operatives Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) and Auggie Anderson (Chris Gorham) work together in the CIA’s Domestic Protection Division (DPD). The show’s cast also includes Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher, Hill Harper, and Nicholas Bishop.
The move to abruptly cancel the adventure spy series comes as a bit of a surprise but the decision reportedly all came down to money. USA owns the show but it’s not a cheap show to produce with rising talent fees and expensive location filming around the world.
In addition, the fifth season of Covert Affairs saw a big drop in the ratings — falling nearly 48% in the 18-49 demographic when compared to season four. Total viewership dropped 32%, to 1.54 million.
The final episode aired December 18th. Hopefully the producers will share what Annie’s decisions about her personal and professional life would have been.
What do you think? Do you like the Covert Affairs TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a sixth season instead?
I’m not surprised at all that it got cancelled. They had her running all over the globe w/a blind guy???? Come on… really? Would you, in her position, want him as YOUR backup? Totally laughable….if they had given him his sight back & they’d gotten together the show might… just might… have lasted at least one more season. I was more disappointed that Perception wasn’t renewed…. That was one of the few innovative programs on tv… on any network. I hope that one gets picked up by another network. The only show left on USA that we watch now is… Read more »
So typical – networks should at least respect the viewers and have the courtesy to wrap up a show. This network’s attitude of cancelling, reinforces in me, the feeling of not wanting to bother to watch any of their shows. There is no consideration for the viewers.
I’m not surprised by the canx’ing of Covert Affairs due to the ratings but the writers brought it on themselves. I got so sick of hard core foreign agents melting at Annie’s doe-eye looks and that ridiculous handgun she carried. And Auggie’s blindness was interesting in seasons 1 and 2 but as he became a main character it hampered him. I mean really, who sends a blind analyst on an overseas spy mission? But, there they were running down some Middle East street set! I kept yelling at the screen for the writers to crash his moped and regain his… Read more »
This is very sad. This season the show was really compelling. With a cliffhanger like that, USA should give them a 6 episode wrap so the fans, the ones that support the network, can see what happens. I used to watch both Rush and Satisfaction. After the season, I figured Rush to survive, Satisfaction to be cancelled. Just the opposite happened!! Not sure who’s making the choices, but I can tell you there is nothing worth watching on USA anymore. Ratings have declined for Covert Affairs, and perhaps people do like mindless television such as “Chrisley Knows Best” (sp), but… Read more »
Cancelling covert affairs is heart breaking for us older viewers. We do not like reality or sports. USA channel is truly is disgusting!!!!!! Find a way to keep it going. Please
Cancelling covert affairs is heart breaking for us older people who do not care for reality shows or sports. We like the old traditional dramas and action shows. USA is truly disgusting. They don’t care what people like on tv. Find a way to keep it going!!!!!!!!
USA is definitely testing all loyalties to their Network. I loved Covert Affairs and all the previously mentioned programs, but why bother getting involved with a program when there is no concern for your fan base in any of your decisions.
Well, this was a horrible start to the New Year! I’m not as concerned about myself, as a fan, than I am for all the actors, writers and staff of “Covert Affairs”. What a disrespectful way to treat all of them, who have given their ALL to making the show something really special for 5 seasons. They should have been given the time to answer many of the questions that are now left hanging. I was afraid, when I saw Auggie say good-bye to Annie on that last episode, that this was coming down the line. Just didn’t think it… Read more »
I AGREE. I AM UPSET WITH CANCELLATION OF WHITE COLLAR AND COVERT AFFAIRS. THERE MUST BE ALOT OF IDIOTS AT USA AS WELL AS CBS CANCELLING ALL THE GOOD SHOWS FOR THE REALITY SHOWS. PUT ALL THE REALITY SHOWS ON SUNDAYS AND BRING BACK THE GOOD SHOWS.
Totally agree. They could have at least given them a few episodes to wrap it up. No more USAnet shows for me as I was only watching Covert Affairs and White Collar anyway.
I’m not surprised. I really can’t blame the network too much considering the ratings. I am blaming the writers for ruining the really good show that was seasons 1 – 3. Then season 4 onwards, focusing on Auggie’s endless love interests and sex scenes killed this show, not to mention pandering to fangirls by constantly writing those ‘shirtless’ scenes as though they were easter eggs that trumped a good story, pretty much turned the show into a joke. This was a SPY show for goodness sake! Thanks a lot writers! You guys did it to yourselves, and now we have… Read more »
Another good show gets dropped….what a shame!! Having lived overseas I really enjoyed the foreign locations and all the intrigue. People should expand their horizons and realize there is more to the world than New York or Hollywood…..
i new that covert affairs was going to end because it was the same thing & the main women had a sickness & she had like 1 yr or less before to die but she didnt….. what the
I cannot believe USA has done it again. When they cancelled Longmire I couldn’t believe it either but I now will expect this from any other good shows they have. Maybe I won’t watch USA anymore then I won’t be wondering what happened or would happen when the next season started.
The show doesn’t deserve this and neither do the fans. At least give us an ending we’d like. Better yet put it back on for another season.
Unbelievable, no, it isn’t. Networks are making incredibly bad decisions about canceling really good, well acted, well written shows and keeping stupid, probably cheap to produce shows. Hopefully Netflix will pick up Covert Affairs, like it did Longmire. I don’t think Perception has found another home yet.
At least let there be a short season to wrap up story lines. USA, don’t just leave all the Covert Affairs fans hanging.
It is a shame that covert affairs is cancelled. I have enjoyed the show from the beginning. I’m requesting the network to reconsider airing this series again. Every time you get very interested in a program the network cancels. Don’t you realized this causes people to talk very negative about the network. I will discourage the age group from 18-49 from watching the network because it cancels popular shows.
I don’t watch White Collar, Suits, Royal Pains, Graceland, Rush, or Satisfaction, but I LOVED Covert Affairs! So disappointing that they didn’t decide to give it a six-episode final mini-season. I can’t believe it! First they put the show in a more competitive time period (fall vs. summer), then they axe it without giving it any sort of resolution at all?? Reminds me of when they cancelled Dead Zone, The 4400, and Touching Evil, but it’s been years since those shows were on the air, so I thought USA Network had learned its lesson about wrapping things up properly. I… Read more »
