The cast of White Collar got a chance to wrap up their series with a final short season but Covert Affairs won’t get that chance. USA Network has cancelled the series after five seasons, leaving fans with plenty of questions and no season six.
On Covert Affairs, operatives Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) and Auggie Anderson (Chris Gorham) work together in the CIA’s Domestic Protection Division (DPD). The show’s cast also includes Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher, Hill Harper, and Nicholas Bishop.
The move to abruptly cancel the adventure spy series comes as a bit of a surprise but the decision reportedly all came down to money. USA owns the show but it’s not a cheap show to produce with rising talent fees and expensive location filming around the world.
In addition, the fifth season of Covert Affairs saw a big drop in the ratings — falling nearly 48% in the 18-49 demographic when compared to season four. Total viewership dropped 32%, to 1.54 million.
The final episode aired December 18th. Hopefully the producers will share what Annie’s decisions about her personal and professional life would have been.
What do you think? Do you like the Covert Affairs TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a sixth season instead?
I wasn’t surprised about this decision from USA. I felt that the writing changed significantly from seasons 1/2 to 3/4/5. I think that the original story line told through season 2 was much better. You could feel the divergence of story writing after the sister Danielle Brooks (Anne Dudek) was written off, and they killed off Jai Wilcox (Sendhil Ramamurthy). The show just lost its path from what the first season started out as, and didn’t “mature” like I thought Annie wanted to be. I know there is no true ending, but really I won’t miss much if they don’t… Read more »
Can anyone tell me why good TV has to die a sudden death leaving loyal viewers in the dark? What’s with the corporate side of USA anyway…don’t those guys watch TV as well? Do they like making viewers angry? Covert Affairs was one of the best hour long dramas for all kinds of reasons…not the least of which was good old fashioned storytelling. The producers had an excellent cast with people you actually liked. In addition the production values were film-like and made the viewing all the more enjoyable. Hey…maybe some big Senior Big Wig programmer will find a new… Read more »
AMEN!!
AS usual a network as cancelled a show with ending it , like White Collar.
This was a good show. The management hasn’t any sense about.
I’m another viewer who is start watching other networks, like Netflix.
I have to say I’m pretty shocked not that the show got cancelled (I was always surprised, and inpressed, with the amount of location filming and knew it could NOT have been a cheap show to produce) but that USA would off it without any sort of chance to wrap it up. I think that any show that lasts at least five seasons should get the chance to have a series finale and not just fade away, even if its just a 2 hour movie event. That being said, I’m still shocked they never found a way to have a… Read more »
I AGREE BURN NOTICE WAS SUPPOSED TO COME BACK IN A NEW SHOW. HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET.
Why do you keep doing this to us. You get a great show and then you cancel it. I am going to miss Covert Affairs, and you didn’t even have the decency to have an ending. I have been watching Covert Affairs from the beginning’ I hope you are not putting a reality show in it’s place. Television has really gone down the tubes, especially you USA.
Since I’m not in the USA demographic age range (I’m 67) USA doesn’t care about us. What would they do if only baby boomers were interested in their channel. May be start to cater to a wider age range.
I AGREE CTODD. ALL THE STATIONS WOULD BE IN TROUBLE IF THEY DEPENDED ON THE YOUNG AND BABY BOOMERS. MOST R OUT DOING THEIR OWN THING. I WATCHED BOTH WHITE COLLAR AND COVERT AFFAIRS. IT WILL BE THAT I WATCH RERUNS OF OTHER SHOWS I LIKE AND NOT WATCH ANYMORE PRIME TIME.
I started watching this show starting with the 4th or 5th episode on season 1. I watched the back shows to catch up and was hooked. I just can’t believe they cancelled it with no finished story line. Another show hits the dust. I am just hoping some of the online networks such as Netflix will pick up some of these booted shows. I really don’t mind paying to watch. Especially since most of the prime networks seem to love reality shows. And I do not. I will say I only watch one as it makes me laugh. That’s Chrisley… Read more »
This show deserves an ending hey Netflix are you listening.
One final thought about Covert Affairs. The ratings for the show may have slipped but they were not terrible and since I will not be watching whatever show replaces it, USA has lost one viewer with a bad taste for the network.
Another good show cancelled without any thought to followers of the show. I have quit investing time in the new shows aired since last summer because of these type of cancellations.
USA should air a series finale to finish all of the story lines since it would not cost that much.
That show sucked. Piper Pirabo’s little Orphan Annie look got old, and her boyfriend was as lame as it gets.
HELLO MY NAME IS MAECONLEY AM NOT HAPPY THAT COVERT AFFAIRS WAS CANCELLED BECUSE THEY DID NOT GET AN HAPPY ENDING THE PEOPLE THAT WACHING THE SHOW AND MY SELF DID GET TO SEE WATHER ANNIE GOING TO MARRED RAYEN OR AUGGIE BUT I THINK THE PEOPLE SHOULD LISTION WHAT THE FAN HAVE TO SAY ABOUT AND PUT COVERT AFFAIR BACK ON THE AIR
I am mad, I think there should be some type of rule that a series has to have a finish an end. It is not fair to the loyal fans. I hate how they drop a series leaving you hanging. Do the right thing like they did for White Collar, let these shows have closure for the viewers.
Just saying!!!
I agree with everyone else. Give us a six episode finale as you did with White Collar and we will be happy. All shows do have to come to an end.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Covert Affairs had really kicked up a notch in the last year or two. I hate this cancellation.
