The ratings for Covert Affairs have been dropping each season for awhile. Will they keep falling this year? Will they drop so low that the USA series is cancelled or, will it be renewed for a sixth season? Stay tuned!
On Covert Affairs, operatives Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) and Auggie Anderson (Chris Gorham) work together in the CIA’s Domestic Protection Division (DPD). The show’s cast also includes Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher, Hill Harper, and Nicholas Bishop.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
UPDATE: USA has decided to cancel Covert Affairs after five seasons.
Final season averages: 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.54 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Reference point: Season four of Covert Affairs averaged a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.27 million total viewers.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Covert Affairs TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season six?
I enjoyed season 4, finally, the first part only , but season 5 nope I don’t like
This show to definitely need new writers or bring back the old the first seasons, and stop the romance between Annie & McQuaid it ruined the show
You can’t expect a show to stay the same in season 5 from season 1. The writers have done a fine job this year and the best part of this season is the dynamic between Annie and McQuaid. Until the last couple of eps, they did the heavy lifting with actual work or spying, and their romance has been realistic. Kudos to the writers, and I really hope McQuaid and the show survives the ax and we all get a season 6.
i agree….the season 5 couldnt stay like the first where annie was like a student pretending to be a cia operative…was not credible at all…like her love story…luckily the charachter grow up!!!!
Hope they dont kill ryan….it would be very stupid…
I’ve read most of the postings on this site and we all have our opinions on why the ratings are down and why it very well may get the ax! And as I read the many thoughtful, insightful, and intelligent comments, I came away with a few things that I think the writers should consider moving forward. (if they get the chance to move forward.) #1. The majority seemed to like seasons 1 through 3, seasons 4 and 5….not so much right? So the question is, what changed? and what needs to be done to correct the things that are… Read more »
Bingo! Very well summarized. Writers, listen to this, and dear USA network, please give the series a proper finale and don’t leave us hanging.
We will see season 6 I think, because it is very good show. Still. I also agree – it started as light summer show and now it’s more serious and dark. But I don’t consider this as a drawback. Annie is independent, confident women and a spy. She grow up season after season. She can’t still be a funny rookie girl like she was in the beginning. Her mission can’t be only about delivering suitcases. She’s more than that. She can do more and she do it. I think more promotions should help, because again, I agree, a lot of… Read more »
Haha. You’re right. It can’t all be about cuteness and suitcases. funny 🙂 Although I really miss Annie’s charming smile. I agree about the show’s direction not being a drawback. Characters need to grow and She isn’t a rookie anymore. I think Joan has now recognized this, and Auggie is slowly catching up to this fact. I really hope you’re right about season 6.
RENEW – I LOVE THIS SHOW
I hope they renew the show. Perhaps they need new writers, better plot lines, and some more network support. Try advertising the show more to draw more interest. There’s lots of viewers that haven’t even heard of the show. There’s so much promotion for the big network’s programs and very little for others. The show could generate better ratings if more people knew about the show.
Season 6 please ! Love that show!
When the star of the show cannot carry the show, the writers need to bring-up the other smart and capable actors of the show. A building needs many poles to support it, specially if the main pole is not strong enough. Plus, make the story lines believable. Year one was great.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. These are just opinions. The star of the show has carried it for 5 seasons. If the star of the show wasn’t able to carry it, how did it get past the first season? and the 2nd? and the 3rd?…I personally think she carries it ably, especially when you consider how few female centered shows there are. 5 seasons is a successful run. It was the ridiculous soap opera romances that the writers indulged in that drove many away. Take away the shipping crap, and the show is still very engaging. This season, especially.… Read more »
The show’s ratings began to go down when too much focus was applied to Annie. She is a good actor but there are great actors already on the show, some of them women and some of them men. I am not talking about the gender but I am bringing up the non realistic story lines. Season 1 was the best.
What? The focus was always about Annie. She’s the rookie on a journey. Look at early seasons, when critics loved the show and millions of people watched. The early seasons were the main character 70% of the show supported by interesting guest stars and a good supporting cast, and that was when the show was at its most successful. Great support and a mix of drama and humor and take downs. Then it switched to long arcs and soap romances since S4, especially for Auggie, his relationships or affairs with xyz women, and the soap turned a lot of people… Read more »
Time to cancel Covert Affairs. The story lines are boring or unbelievable. These people make dumb mistakes for supposedly being trained spies. Loved the show when it first started, but it’s gone rapidly down the tubes. I’ve stopped watching it.
dear Jim
U have found the best solution…stop watching it. As for the rest of us…we love it…it is not real live tv…we just want some fun and good show…so we like it.
so the darker, edgier and more soap opera this show becomes, the lower the ratings….. go figure. USA networks problem with all their shows.
Love this show! Don’t cancel this show!! It’s the only one on TV that is worth watching!
Hate Annie and McQuaid as lovers
This is false the show has fallen since the middle of season 3 not because of Annie and Auggie, watch the ratings of Season 3 for yourself, they fell from the episode 3×11 , (ratings season 4 average 2.5 million viewers , with DVR 3.9 million viewers )
How is it false? The show was averaging 3 1/2 mil. viewers until the customary Fall drop in 3.11, like the drop in 2.11 or 4.11 and now 5.11. It’s the Fall phenomenon. The point that S4 never got the returning summer vieweship, and it’s open to interpretation as to why. It did end in a coupling and the romance seemed to be the focus in the promotions for S4 which returned to less viewership. It seemed suspicious, so I may have rushed to judgement as I am not a fan of shipping. At all.
I love this this season because of McQuaid and Annie. And it’s not just because of their chemistry, but their characters brings a maturity to the show that had spun into soap opera territory. I love McQuaid. He’s an awesome, down to earth man. Give him more bad guys to thrown through a window. Loved Lynn Collins. Olga and Annie were the best thing in the last episode. Too bad they killed her off. Great episode. I loved how we got to see Joan, Calder and Ryan. About time they got some much deserved screen time. Looking forward to see… Read more »
Although I really like Annie and McQuaid, there are also a lot of other things I have l enjoyed this season too in regards to the others charactes and storyline. I do like the addition of McQuaid and his interactions with our current characters. He offered unconditional support at the beginning of the season and he has delivered. I like that a lot. He makes her smile which I love. I enjoyed his response to Joan when she questioned him about why he did not contact her about Auggie’s situation and how he handled Calder when he demanded to know… Read more »
so you think last year was a soap opera but this year isn’t? really? it is an even BIGGER melodramatic soap opera now.
I don’t like this season, I don’t like Annie and McQuaid as a couple, and I’m not surprised of bad ratings
Totally agree! I don’t see this so called great “chemistry” between the two. This is the first season that I didn’t like, however I still hope it gets renewed for a sixth season.
Yeah, a season 6 of urgency, a lot to repair and restore in order, no chemistry between Annie and McQuaid
Dear Priscilla,
Whether u find the chemistry or not…it is a good show and there are plenty of characters and content to look at….also it is not this the reason why ratings were dropping…there is a lot of potential in the show…and i have seen more craps around…so lets hope for a renewal.!!!
I still hope AUGGIE FINDS A NEW STORY AND BUSINESS AND LEAVE ANNIE ALONE…..
You are so wise. And the chemistry between McQuaid and Annie has a far more grown up maturity than the sophmoric one between Annie and Auggie. But this show is much better when it’s about the mystery and the spy stuff, and that’s why Annie and McQuaid works. It wasn’t about the romance, it was about the work and it grew into more, which was secondary to the story.
The bad ratings are because of the Fall, up against How to get away with murder. Thursday nights are highly competitive for even the Networks. Both White Collar (against Scandal) and Covert Affairs are little Davids against the Goliaths right now. And if people were honest, they would see that the ratings dropped steadily as TV shows usually do, but in Covert Affairs, it really dropped in season 4, because the writers started to pander towards the Walkerson vocalists, which was a disaster the show never recovered from. The writers need to ignore all the shippers no matter what pairing… Read more »
