TV show description:
Closet gay screenwriter Mitch Crumb (Fred Savage) is struggling with writers block after writing a successful movie based on the family and the drowning of his brother, Patrick. Out of money, he returns to his Connecticut hometown to help take care of his mother, Suzanne (Jane Curtin), when she’s released from a mental institution.
It seems Suzanne tried to run over her husband, Billy Crumb (William Devane), after he left her for a restaurant reviewer named Shelley (Illeana Douglas). He still lives with Shelley and she’s now pregnant. Though Suzanne hates Billy, she sometimes hopes that he’ll come back to her.
Mitch has long been estranged from his restaurateur brother, Jody (Eddie McClintock). Mitch runs the family business, is self-absorbed, and has a very healthy sex life. He eventually starts dating Mitch’s longtime friend and confidant, Andrea Malone (Maggie Lawson), who also works at the family business.
Elvis (Reginald Ballard) is Suzanne’s large African-American attendant and lover from the institution. After Billy gets him fired, Suzanne arranges for him to work at the restaurant to drive her ex-husband crazy.
Could this family be any more dysfunctional?
