Here we go again. Tonight, CBS airs the ninth season finale of CSI: NY. Will the long-running show be cancelled so that it ends up also being the series finale as well?
As with any show, the network has to look at the costs to produce CSI: NY versus the revenue it generates. CSI: NY has been on the air for nearly 200 episodes and so the costs have risen over the years. Unfortunately, the ratings haven’t gone up as well.
In season seven, CSI: NY averaged a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.03 million total viewers. Last season, the show averaged a 1.6 demo rating with 9.94 million. This year, it’s averaged a 1.4 rating with 9.68 million viewers.
Is it worthwhile for the network to keep producing more episodes or should they try something new? They haven’t had any luck launching new dramas on Friday nights — Made in Jersey and A Gifted Man, for example — so trying to replace CSI: NY might be a tricky proposition.
As Gary Sinise recently told Larry King regarding the ninth season renewal, “It was a 50-50 toss-up. We have a good solid show but I know from a business perspective what they’re thinking about, looking at. Has our show run its course? Can they find a new show that’s cheaper to make than ours that can do as well? They have to take a lot into account but we’re a solid show.”
If CSI: NY does return it will be without one castmember. Hill Harper, who’s played Sheldon Hawkes since the show began, is leaving. He’s becoming a series regular on USA’s Covert Affairs drama starting with season four.
What do you think? Has CSI: NY run its course? Should CBS cancel it and replace it with an existing drama or something new? Would you like to see it come back for a 10th year?
CSI NY is one great show, the best of all the CSI shows. The cast is very true to life and Gary Sinise is so believable as his character as are the rest of the cast. Lots of avenues to discover by renewing this show, please keep it on. Every time we find a great show, it gets dumped. What’s wrong with that picture I ask?
Love Sinise! He’s one of the good guys. Love the series….please keep it on.
Keep it on another year! It was soooo good this year. All of the characters have great storylines just heating up and the crime-solving still is the best on TV. We all want more!
please keep CSI NY.. Is a really good show.
Keep CSI NY! Over 9 million is great! This article claims ratings have gone down…DUH! It was on its weel known & solid Wed. spot wherre it helped kill off Law & Order, then moved to Friday. How many 9 year old shows still draw over 9 million? Keep CSI NY & start thinking about a CSI Alaska or CSI Hawaii!
I would love to keep watching CSI NY. It took me a few years to get into it, but I and my hubby are fans of it. If CBS wants to cancel a show, how about CSI? They had too many actors come and go. Grisom was the heart of the show. Even though I loved whole original cast, the show lost momentum with Grisom gone. We lost interest and stopped watching. Friday night’s without CSI NY wouldn’t be the same.
NO ! NO ! Can’t believe CBS would cancel CSI NY!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best shows on TV !!!!!!!!!!!!
Last night sure looked like the series end with everyone living happily ever after. More bad guys to catch in NY!!
I love CSI NY and think they deserve another season. Gary Sinise is just great and does a lot for the troops. The team on CSI NY seems to work well together. Too bad about Hill Harper. I really liked him too! Keep it on. I was unhappy when CSI Miami went away without resolving many stories. I am still upset about that. CSI is not that great but it keeps going. They take the good shows off the air and leave the junk on!!!!
I think the show should definitely be renewed. There are too many unknowns to be taken care of such as Sid’s health, the new baby, Mac’s wedding. We need to have these resolved. Besides it is one of the best dramas on tv. The cast is like members of our family. So please renew for at least one more season.
cancel NY and bring back Miami
You’ve got to be kidding. Bring back vigilante horashio? Not!!
Well new shows on Friday have failed. CBS has proved that CSI NY works on Friday night. Give it another season please
Keep csiny going. its a great show, it has plenty more years ahead, the writers keep coming up with some exiting things it would be a shame if it ended now.
I like the show. I hope they keep it on
Definitely renew CSI/New York for a 10th Season. I personally think it gets better and better. Some episodes better than others, but tell me one Show on TV when an episode or two is not as good as the other episodes. It’s fiction, folks, and CSI/NY is very entertaining.
Keep CSI NY going…bad enough they cancelled CSI Miami and left its fans up in the air with no real tying of loose ends….bad enough they destroyed the original CSI when Grissom left and then let Catherine leave replacing them with Becker and the Babysitter, they fit the CSI family about as well as the Laurence Fishbourne experiment….CSI & NCIS….only reason I even watch CBS.
Renew. It is getting better with Mac having a love life as it helps to humanize his character. Friday nights are tough.
