It’s the end of the line for the Dallas TV show — for the second time. TNT has announced that they’ve cancelled the new Dallas TV show after three seasons.
A continuation of the successful CBS series from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Dallas follows the machinations of two generations of the dysfunctional and powerful Ewing clan. The cast includes Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Juan Pablo Di Pace.
Year-to-year, season three of Dallas was down by 26% in viewership and down by 38% in the 18-49 demographic. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series and that certainly wasn’t a good sign for its chances of a fourth season.
In a statement, TNT said, “We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Ewing saga. We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show’s creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series.”
Cidre and the writers have been working on scripts and ideas for a fourth season of Dallas so hopefully she’ll share what would have happened at some point.
What do you think? Will you miss the Ewings? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
We enjoyed the series and hope it returns with more shows. We were huge fans of the first show
I love the show!!!! Please bring it back!!!!!
Big Mistake, the best seasons of the old dallas were 1-8. It’s a very good show, just not enough people even knew it was airing b/c it was never advertised. Losing Larry Hagman did hurt it but Bobby running Ewing Global was going to make for great script. Bobby was beginning to do the “J.R.” Moves to win. TNT made a big mistake. Honestly A&E or CBS or the other two networks should pick up the show. It is dang good.
I am not sure what TNT was expecting to happen with the show. A tough time slot with limited market effort. This article fails to mention the two top TNT supporters left TNT. Otherwise, it very likely would have been renewed. Likewise, I am not sure how stations can reshow the same shows over and over all day long, but not have “room” for a unique show with a captive audience.
I loved the show. Yes TNT should be ashamed for not advertising it more. All the cast and stories were great.
OMG…..unbelieveable. No reason to TNT. Such a great come back kid show and if TNT had done just a little more advertising the viewership would have probably doubled. I hope they reconsider………so many will it.
I purchased all the DVDs from the original series but they seem so silly compared to the new series which has so much more in the way of storyline and suspense. I love Josh Henderson. He is so sexy. I will miss the new series so much. I hope they can find a way to put it on another network. It was the only series I watched on TNT. Maybe the problem is with the network.
I’ve been following Dallas since the 70s and it is a very interesting saga. I have watched every episode in the last three seasons and truly love the new generation. I was really hoping for another 20 years of Dallas. The actors and writers are absolutely phenomenal to have put this show together the way they have.I can only hope another network will pick them up for season 4 and many more. Surely if General Hospital and Star Trek is still on the air we can find room for Dallas somewhere. Thanks to everyone for all your hard work.
Cmon, you other networks out there! SAVE DALLAS!! It has a loyal following! I promise to buy whatever your advertisers are selling, if that makes a difference! ;-D
I like Troy’s comment and feel the same way. Have written letters, signed the petition, and like Troy, I will support the Dallas advertisers!
I cannot believe they cancel such a great show that sucks they need to bring it back
This show definitely should not be cancelled. It got more intense from episode to episode. I certainly would watch it if it was on another network.
I looked forward to watching this show every Monday night! I can’t believe they’ve
cancelled it! I surely would watch it on another channel & I hope that another network
will pick it up. Josh Henderson is so good as John Ross & reminds me of Larry Hagman
when he played J.R. He’s so devious & charming at the same time just a chip off the old block…….PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE BEST SHOW ON TV!!!!!
For all the crap that’s on TV now that we have to watch because there’s nothing else on, it amazes me that TNT canceled the best show on TV. TNT obviously hasn’t a clue what they’re doing. To replace it with Basketball is utter nonsense. Please bring it back or broker a deal for another network to air Dallas. Maybe TNT, being so clueless, isn’t the network that should be graced with this fine show.
I wish I could say I am surprised. The T.V. Companies cut off all the good shows. They just leave the stupid ones!!!!!!!!!!
I’m very disappointed to hear, that Dallas on TNT, has been canceled??………It has been, one of the best nighttime dramas, I’ve watched on cable TV, in a long time!……..I sure hope, that another, worth while network, picks up, this amazing show??……..
I loved the show. TNT should be ashamed for not advertising it more. Several of our friends did not even know it came back on this last season. All the cast and stories were great.
Loved the old show and enjoyed watching the new. Some writing slips here and there, which did not occur in the original, but overall really looked forward to seeing the weekly show and had hoped it would endure many years. Would I watch it again on another channel? You bet. Would I care if it never returned? Here’s what I have to say to Television producers and moguls, etc. We need more dramas on TV. In the eighties, we had such great television compared to today’s “reality” crap shows. Love the dramas, and of course, loved the Ewings. Yes, please… Read more »
