Dark Matter may not being coming back to television, but is there still a future for the story? Recently, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi discussed his plans for the future of the cancelled Syfy TV show.
As reported earlier, Syfy recently cancelled the space-set drama after three seasons. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
On his blog, Mallozzi revealed he plans on completing the Dark Matter story as a comic book:
All good things must come to an end – some much sooner than expected. Sadly, such is the case for Dark Matter. Despite word of the cancellation by syfy, fandom rose up and gave us new hope. We sought to buck the odds and find our little show a new home. But unfortunately, I just learned that our final option has proven unworkable due to contractual issues. It’s a shame because these potential saviors reached out to me and offered a creative solution that, had it worked, would have been a sci-fi fan’s dream scenario. But, alas, it was not to be. In time, I would love to tell you all about it.
As for what’s next for Dark Matter? My first choice would be to complete the story in comic book format where it originally began, but I’ve just started to look into the possibility now. Beyond that, I’m not sure.
Thank you to my cast and crew who made it all possible.
And an especially HUGE THANK YOU to all of you, the viewers and fans, who made Dark Matter one of syfy’s most watched shows and who rallied and made your voices heard these past few weeks.
I said it before and I’ll say it again…
You all deserved better.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Dark Matter? Would you read the show as a comic book?
Big mistake.
to me bitten and dark matter should have been renewed i am sorry but you are losing good people ,watcher.
I loved dark matter. one of your best shows
I love this show!! I don’t wanna read it I want to watch it. It’s better to watch. No Syfy for me!!
Too right we deserved better, and so did the entire Dark Matter cast and production team. Much as I love this show, I will not read a comic book, so I’m just SOL. Please don’t give up trying to find a new home for this excellent show!
No Dark Matter, no Syfy.
I will not forgive syfy for this nor will I support them in the future
I’m disappointed that it won’t be renewed for season 4. I probably wouldn’t follow it if it came back in comic book form. I’ll miss you Dark Matter!
I love the show and I am disappointed that it wasn’t renewed for a fourth season. However I probably wouldn’t follow it in comic book form. I’ll miss you Dark Matter!
It’s a real shame. I really did enjoy this show. I enjoyed the characters and visual quality. I’m very disappointed in Syfy for cancelling but I fully support the idea of a comic book continuation.
No DM… this could be the start of the fall of civilization.. (maybe that’s not a bad thing the way we are heading). A telemovie would be great to wind things up..a la Firefly/Serenity. I’m not a comic book reader any more but may make an exception just to find out what happens. Regardless of how well it’s written/acted/made I guess it’s almost impossible to have a truly original, never though of, story line. Maybe destroying Earth is the way to go. I cannot see how this is canned but very average sci fi movies aren’t. Maybe the invaders could… Read more »
Dark Matter was actually the only show I have been watching on SYFY, everything else has been junk! Too bad netflix is scared to pick it up because of lawsuits.
Why can’t it be completed as a full length tele movie?
I guess I would read it in a comic book but I would rather watch it on tv, DVD maybe
I am a fan of the show, but I could see why they canceled it. They we’re probably running out of ideas on what direction the story should take. Still, I’d like to see what happens with Boon’s girlfriend now that she’s an Android. I’d also like to see what happens with the original Android as she decides whether or not it’s better to have emotions. And finally, what is the deal with these new aliens? I am not a comic book reader, so I probably would not read the comic book version. Really wish they would just get creative… Read more »
